Japanese game development and publishing company Atlus has just announced that one of its latest releases, Shin Megami Tensei 5, has hit a very significant sales milestone. Though not as popular as the Persona series, SMT does have its own dedicated fanbase, which has likely grown since the official launch of Shin Megami Tensei 5 last November 2021. Now, SMT 5 has surpassed over one million copies sold around the world, both in digital and physical sales, only five months after its official release date.Shin Megami Tensei 5's blend of apocalyptic story and turn-based gameplay is likely something that most modern gamers are not used to. However, with its release on a more accessible gaming platform like the Nintendo Switch, the RPG offers something fresh for players who are eager to try something new. With this recent success in sales, it is not surprising that Atlus and the SMT development team are already thinking about expanding the brand by refreshing older titles and producing new ones to add to the series.RELATED: Shin Megami Tensei 5 Director Hopes To Expand Series Through Revivals and New TitlesThe announcement that Shin Megami Tensei 5 has sold over one million copies worldwide was officially shared on the Japanese Atlus site. To commemorate the occasion, a celebratory artwork created by the game's character designer Masayuki Doi bannered the news. In the artwork, Shin Megami Tensei 5's iconic protagonist Nahobino is front and center, with words of the team's thanks written on the art piece. The post also shared that the first SMT 5 download sale for the game will be happening on the Japanese Nintendo eShop from April 25 to May 11, 2022. The sale will also offer special prices for purchases including the game's DLC bundles.

Though the news was shared via the series' Japanese accounts, many of the game's fans from all over the world replied to the announcements with their congratulations. This likely indicates that the JRPG genre and titles with turn-based gameplay like Shin Megami Tensei 5 still have a place within the today's modern gaming scene.

Even though Atlus is not sharing any news about additional content for Shin Megami Tensei 5 or the Shin Megami Tensei series as a whole, this sales milestone sets the franchise down a great path.
