  • She-Hulk season 2 may be unlikely due to budget constraints, as the show reportedly exceeded its allotted budget.
  • She-Hulk: Attorney at Law was a refreshing departure for the MCU, bringing comedy to the forefront and featuring a unique blend of humor and well-written dialogue.
  • The idea of no more She-Hulk is tragic for the MCU, as the franchise needs more shows like it to diversify its offerings and provide comedic relief.

She-Hulk season 2 chances may have taken a hit after the first took too many trips to the budget buffet. Now, Tatiana Maslany doesn't think a second season is likely.

She-Hulk MCU's rocky history on Disney Plus. For every beloved series like WandaVision and Loki, several entries, such as Secret Invasion or Iron Fist, leave audiences wanting less. The last one may have predated the current supervillain-like saturation of the genre, but it's canon now, so it counts. Then there are shows like the fantastic Ms. Marvel, which topped the streaming charts the year it came out but remains tragically left out of many conversations about the overall continuity. But She-Hulk is one show that fans can't seem to agree on, and now it may never get a chance to win over its detractors.

The She-Hulk Finale Evokes Two Classic Comedies

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law's fourth-wall-breaking finale recalls the third act of Blazing Saddles and the multiple endings of Wayne's World.

In a recent stream (reported via The Direct), She-Hulk lead Tatiana Maslany was asked to give her candid thoughts on whether a second season was in the cards for her and her castmates. Unfortunately, she wasn't optimistic, citing the show's use of its allotted budget as a reason Disney is unlikely to dip into that particular pool again. It's not an official announcement, but it's not like her answer is pure speculation. She was the face of the series, after all.

"I don't think so. I think we blew our budget, and Disney was like, 'No thanks.'"

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law had a divisive finale, but the show leading up to that point was a breath of fresh air for the franchise. As essentially a half-hour episodic legal comedy featuring Maslany's Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk often speaking directly to the camera, it caught many viewers off-guard after the much more serious (if still quippy) previous movies and shows. The same can be said for Jen's early monologue about her experience controlling her emotions as a woman, which now also serves as a handy litmus test. But those who stuck around usually had to pause regularly due to satisfying giggle fits during some of the show's more delightfully absurd moments or even simply over its many well-written dialogue scenes.

However, those who have seen She-Hulk may be a bit confused by the budget comment. The show often made a point to lampoon its inability to afford the visual effects needed to depict Jennifer Walters' transformation, even flat-out saying it in She-Hulk's 4th wall-breaking but oddly comic book-accurate finale. So the fact that the series supposedly spent too much money even then may indicate that perhaps Disney didn't give it the budget it needed in the first place. But that's just idle theorizing.

The idea of no more She-Hulk is truly tragic for the MCU, as it's a franchise that desperately needs more shows like this one. Sure, the new series Echo is another excellent and refreshing departure that features some important representation of Native Americans and people with disabilities. But there's something to be said about bringing comedy to the forefront once in a while, and She-Hulk was an absolute master at that.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is available to stream on Disney Plus.
