Anyone who’s tuned in for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law on Disney Plus will have already seen the wonder that the MCU’s correctional system has done for The Incredible Hulk's villain, Emil Blonsky, a.k.a Abomination, but now the show is going meta with Blonsky's poetry.
In She-Hulk episode 2, fans were treated to Tim Roth's first appearance in the series, where he’s become the first case Jennifer Walters has to tackle at her new job, and in order to boost his parole chances, She-Hulk's official Twitter account released the haiku poems he’s been sending out over the last few years. Even more so, that change in character meant Marvel fans can rejoice at seeing Roth's wide acting range, now playing a more serene version of himself than what Louis Leterrie's sole Hulk movie had to offer.
So what has Blonsky been writing about all this time when he’s not picking up underground fights with Wong? Well clearly, Blonsky's mindfulness has allowed him to separate himself from the Abomination, and according to Bruce Banner, he writes some beautiful stuff. Nevertheless, his fixation with the monster’s tiny ears might read a bit weird to those with a more cultivated taste for poetry, although, it is the effort to make amends that matters.
Clearly, Blonsky has had a lot of time to think in his crystal prison. However, showrunner Jessica Gao has so far done a great job of turning his cause into something that can generate a bit of empathy with She-Hulk and the audience. Gone is the angry soldier from The Incredible Hulk, who feels mostly wronged by the late Thunderbolt Ross, and perhaps the next few episodes will see Abomination truly become Emil.
She-Hulk's latest teaser sees Abomination out on the loose, seemingly being cheered by crowds, and while that may complicate Jennifer's case in the long run, it does put the character on a better path to booking a spot in the MCU's Thunderbolts roster. More than anything, Roth brings a ton of character to She-Hulk, which has been review-bombed and currently sits at the bottom of Rotten Tomatoes user score rankings when it comes to Marvel Studios shows.
That, combined with an upcoming appearance from rap superstar Megan Thee Stallion and the promise of a Daredevil came, are both the kinds of boosts She-Hulk could use in court.
