There is a big reason why viewers of the first Shazam movie liked it more than many DC movies. It was funny. It’s as pure and simple of a reason as that and Shazam! Fury of the Gods is no different. It does suffer from bloating and an overstuffed plot that doesn’t go anywhere.

Overall, Shazam! Fury of the Gods will at least make viewers laugh though. Not as much as the original, but at least Zachary Levi brings a lot to the table. He and a few other actors/characters help carry the movie. Now, prepare and put those spoiler goggles on to hear some of the best lines in the movie.

Warning! Spoilers ahead.

8 “That’s Not A Small Amount.”

Billy’s pediatrician in Shazam Fury of the Gods

The opening to Shazam! The Fury of the Gods begins with Billy, as Shazam, talking to a pediatrician about his problems. Eventually, he starts to go into his entire past, including the last movie, which involved wizards, magic, and so much more. That’s when this nameless doctor says this line as Billy who indicated his issues weren’t that big of a deal to the confused doctor. It’s a lot to take in. Another great thing about this scene is the Annabelle doll in the background. What kind of pediatrician has one of those haunted dolls?

7 “No Way, Did I Just Save You While You Were Listening To This Song?”

Part of Billy’s charm when he takes on the mantle of Shazam is his kid-like wonder. A great example is the bridge set piece at the beginning of the movie. Billy saves a lady from falling into the water while she is listening to “Holding Out for a Hero" by Bonnie Tyler.

This classic song has been featured in more games and movies than one can count. Shrek 2 and Saints Row The Third come to mind as they both have equally great montages alongside Shazam! The Fury of the Gods.

6 “Do You Think She Has Her Hair In A Ponytail, Wears Glasses, And Is An Accountant?”

Billy, as Shazam, says this line to Mary to some effect. He is talking about Wonder Woman and their secret identities. He is making fun of the idea that Wonder Woman would have a job like a normal human instead of always being a hero.

He jokes, but Billy is dead wrong which is probably the real joke here. Wonder Woman has disguised herself as Diana Prince throughout history posing as a museum curator or that’s the case in Wonder Woman 1984 at least.

5 “Freddy! Is My Name…”

Anthea and Freddy in school in Shazam Fury of the Gods

While the movie is called Shazam! The Fury of the Gods and is thus supposed to be about Billy, Freddy has a lot of solo scenes. He’s almost like the real star just like how Janet and Kang were the main attractions of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania even though the titular Ant-Man should have presumably had more agency within his movie.

Now, Freddy bursts out his name to Anthea after he walks her to class. He’s a nervous wreck because Anthea looks the way she does and Freddy has low self-esteem. Their budding romance is another large focus of the film.

4 “Does Anybody Want A Gatorade?

Hespera in Shazam Fury of the Gods

Technically, this line was said by Billy, as Shazam, while he was dictating the note to the sentient pen, Steve. However, Hespera is the one that reads this line out loud. Her matter-of-fact reading of the letter is one of the best scenes in Shazam! The Fury of the Gods, thanks to Helen Mirren being such a professional boss of an actress.

She heightens every movie she is in especially when talking about weird drinks like Gatorade. Kalypso has a great response to this letter as well when she asks Freddy if Gatorade is a weapon. The Daughters of Atlas, as a whole, are kind of like fish out of water archetypes.

3 “I’m Gay!”

The Shazam family as kids in Shazam Fury of the Gods

Once the dragon is released by Kalypso, the Shazam family race out of the God realm to save their foster parents. When they burst into their bedroom, they explain they have a secret to tell. Most of them say they are a superhero, but Pedro instead blurts out “I’m Gay!”

His sexuality was something hinted at in the first movie and it was teased a few times in Shazam! The Fury of the Gods as well. It’s sweet how accepting everyone is of Pedro at this moment despite a dragon being on the loose. Pedro joins a mighty squad of growing gay heroes within comics and movies.

2 “Suddenly This Seems Inappropriate.”

Victor and Rosa in Shazam Fury of the Gods

One of the weirdest things about the Shazam franchise as a whole is how kids turn into adults. Darla is a great example since she is the youngest foster child in the movie and is far away from getting into romantic entanglements.

Thankfully, there are no creepy scenes with her. Freddy on the other hand is a teenager, so it’s not that weird for him to fall in love with a girl, Anthea, since she looks about his age. Anthea eventually reveals she is over 6,000 years and yet the two still kiss. That’s when Victor says this line about things suddenly getting weird as that age gap is more than troubling.

1 “Taste The Rainbow Motherf…”

Darla feeding unicorns skittles in Shazam Fury of the Gods

Darks says this line twice in the movie. The first time she says it was to lure out a unicorn with Skittles. The second time she screams it with the movie cutting off the profanity as she rides into battle on the unicorn.

Product placement is all over this movie and superhero films in general. While it could be groan-worthy to see products being promoted so heavily, the examples of Skittles and Gatorade in Shazam! The Fury of the Gods are at least funny. If they also make viewers hungry and thirsty for some tasty treats then so be it.
