If it ain't broke don't fix it. At least, it seems that's what Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy believe. After working on both Free Guy and The Adam Project together, evidently, the two have developed a sense of trust between each other because they're going to work together again. So much so that they reportedly will be collaborating for the next installment in the Deadpool movie franchise.

The Hollywood Reporter reported that Levy is now slated to direct the upcoming film Deadpool 3, which of course is going to star Reynolds as the titular character. Levy is the third director to be behind the camera, as the first installment was directed by Tim Miller and the second one directed by David Leitch. Along with Levy and Reynolds, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote the scripts for the first two films, are slated to return as screenwriters.

Besides that, not a lot of details have been revealed for the upcoming film as of now. It would be safe to presume that they will probably bring back characters that were in the first two films, most namely Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Stefan Kapicic (Colossus), Briana Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), and Karan Sony (Blind Al). Given the bad press TJ Miller has received over the last few years, he probably won't return as Weasel. Considering the excellent additions that they were in the second film, it wouldn't shock anyone if they brought back Josh Brolin (Cable) and Zazie Beetz (Domino) as well.

Deadpool Reading Cropped

Deadpool 3 will be the first installment developed for the franchise since Disney's merger with FOX studios back in 2017. In spite of Deadpool's material clearly not being suited for children, it would make sense for Disney to continue the franchise seeing how profitable each Deadpool installment was - both movies made almost $800 million each. A betting man would guess that the reason why it took so long for the franchise's third installment to come along was that the pandemic knocked everything out of whack.

So now we can finally let the speculation surrounding Deadpool 3 begin. Will it continue its own story or is it going to be included in some capacity with the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? It'd be difficult to integrate Deadpool, the merc with a mouth, into a family-friendly movie franchise, but Disney has proven time and time again that they can do the impossible with the Marvel heroes, so who knows? In spite of the merger with FOX, it's probably in their best interest to keep Deadpool in his own story.

No matter where the story goes, fans have every reason to be excited about the franchise's third installment, and not just for the usual ones. Even though the Deadpool movies are regarded primarily as comedies, they're actually underrated as superhero films as a whole. Thanks to the R-rating, the action doesn't get the credit it should for how well-choreographed it is, and the subject matter in those movies is surprisingly deeper than most Marvel films put out. The reason it doesn't get that sort of attention is that people watch them with the intent to crack up at the jokes. Make no mistake, the two Deadpool films are excellent superhero movies, and there's no reason to think the third won't be more of the same!

Deadpool can currently be streamed on Hulu.
