The fact that Sons of the Forest has been released to early access means that there's bound to be a few bugs, and one person has noticed a glitch that allows players to go surfing on the back of a shark. Although it's an indie title, Endnight's sequel to The Forest has been one of the biggest horror game releases of 2023 so far. It may be going up against the Resident Evil 4 remake and Alan Wake 2, but this creepy survival game shows there's a lot of love for the smaller studios.

Because the developer is still working on the game, Sons of the Forest fans have been making the most of exploits, allowing them to speed through to the end in ways that will probably be patched out at some point. Pretty much all early access titles are noteworthy for their litany of bugs and not-quite-finished content, but it just means that, for early adopters, there's a lot of fun to be had.

For example, a recent report from The Gamer points to Reddit user Repelation who shows that it's possible to go surfing on the waters of Sons of the Forest without a boat. A brief clip of their playthrough demonstrates the ability to hitch a ride on a shark in order to get some distance across the ocean. However, it has been pointed out that players are unable to control the predatory fish, so it means surfing on the back of one is more for kicks than it is for intentionally exploring new areas. That said, it does look pretty fun, though it might not last long.

Since it came out, Endnight Games has sent out a few hotfixes for Sons of the Forest, aiming to iron out a few kinks. With the game still in development, it's understandable that the studio would be trying to fire out as many updates as it can to patch the more obvious glitches. This means that, for the time being at least, shark surfing may be possible, but it might not be around forever.

Whether it's people's love of Kelvin or the fact that there are some amusing exploits, Sons of the Forest is considered a great survival horror game. It will be interesting to see what it will be like once the full release launches. Who knows, maybe Endnight will decide to keep in the ability to catch some waves on the back of potentially dangerous sea creatures.

Sons of the Forest is out now in early access for PC.
