Actor Simu Liu has gone from being a stock photo model to one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood following the success of Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. He has now added writer to his glorious resume and revealed the first look at his memoir, We Were Dreamers: An Immigrant Superhero Origin Story.

The Marvel star shared the cover and first page of his memoir on his official Twitter account on Tuesday. Keeping it simple, Liu features on the cover of We Were Dreamers along with a quote from actress Olivia Munn that refers to the book as “a sincere, funny and fascinating love letter to family.” While Liu had confirmed that he had written the book back in June 2021, it is only now that the cover has been officially revealed, along with a release date of May 3, 2022.

In Liu's own words, We Were Dreamers is “a hilarious and heartfelt tale about coming of age in a foreign land, struggling to find your footing and ultimately learning to seize your moment and own your greatness.” The book is already available for pre-ordering online, but will only arrive in bookstores later this year. Liu confessed that this book is his "whole heart and soul," and it took him nearly three years to write the story of his "little family of dreamers." He also shared an image of the first page, or prologue, in the book that sheds light on the phone call that Liu received from Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige to inform him of his lead role in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Liu has never been shy about sharing his life’s story with the press in the past, and has spoken about his family’s struggles several times. Having immigrated to Canada from China, his parents initially found it difficult to fit in and experienced racism over the years. Liu has also spoken up against Asian hate crimes in the US, while reflecting on his own experiences of growing up in a foreign land. It seems like he will be referring to his journey in his memoir as well.

What started off as a fun Shang-Chi tweet to Marvel became a turning point in Liu's career. Being selected for the role of Shang-Chi will obviously play a big role in his upcoming memoir, as he went from being an immigrant to a superhero. The memoir is sure to give his fans some insight into his inspiring story, and may even encourage them to dream big.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is now streaming on Disney Plus.
