How to Get Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stones in Shadow of the Erdtree

SOTE-SADSS-header

A Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone is the crafting material that players will use to upgrade the highest-quality weapons to +10. They are incredibly rare, with only 8 available in the base version of Elden Ring. In Shadow of the Erdtree, there currently appears to be three ways to acquire this important item: defeat SotE's Ghostflame Dragons, defeat Ancient Dragon Senessax, and make your way to the top of the Spiral Rise in Enir-Ilim.

Each Ghostflame Dragon presents an immense challenge. If you struggle to take them down, try using Game ZXC's guide to defeating Ghostflame Dragons .

Scadu Altus

Where to Find Ancient Dragon Senessax

SOTE-Sennesax-Map-1

To get to Ancient Dragon Senessax, you need to make your way through the Dragon's Pit cave in southern Gravesite Plain. This will lead you to the base of the Jagged Peak. Follow the mountain path, and you will first come upon two drakes fighting. After that fight, continue up the path. You will encounter Ancient Dragon Senessax before reaching the area's final boss. Defeat Senessax to get a Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone, and a regular Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone .

Where to Find the Somber Ancient Stone at Spiral Rise in Enir-Ilim

To reach Enir-Ilim, you'll need to head through the Ancient Ruins of Rauh and defeat the area's main boss. This will lead you to the Sealing Tree. Setting the tree ablaze will reveal a massive Legacy Dungeon in the Sky called Enir-Illum. This area is incredibly difficult - even for Shadow of the Erdtree. There are basic, respawning enemies that are harder than some of the game's mini-bosses. However, it is possible to get through it. Your first goal is to reach the third site of grace in the dungeon: Spiral Rise.

Once you reach Spiral Rise, follow these steps:

  • From Spiral Rise, begin heading up the stairs until you can exit a window on the left. Take out the enemy on the roof, then head right. As you turn the corner, you'll encounter several Gravebirds on the roof ahead, so watch out.
  • Continue along the roof until you see a set of stairs leading up to a tower.
  • Take the stairs up, into, and through the first chamber. Then take the second set of stairs up to the next roof. There will be an extremely dangerous Horned Warrior patrolling.
  • Head up the roof and into the building at the top. Once inside, take the stairs.
  • At the top of the stairs, you'll find an elevator. Take it down.
  • Get off the elevator, go out the only exit. Head down and through the final chamber.
  • As you exit, a ring-wielding Omen will be waiting to surprise you.
  • Head down the stairs at the last exit to find the stone at the end.

These are currently all the known Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stones in Shadow of the Erdtree. If anymore are found, they will be added to this guide as soon as possible.
