A new comparison video for the upcoming remake of Shadow of the Colossus has been released, showing footage side-by-side from the original PS2 release, the version remastered for the PS3, and this new remake of the game for the PS4. The footage highlights just how much of a step forward this version is from both of its predecessors.

The Shadow of the Colossus comparison footage was released on YouTube following the PSX 2017 live-stream event, where Sony developers showed off almost 15 minutes of gameplay from the upcoming title while discussing changes to the game. Unlike the PS3 remaster, this version of the game is a full-fledged remake developed from the ground up with ultra-high definition assets.

The remake's release date of February 6th was revealed in a trailer earlier this year, and the game has been highly-anticipated ever since. There's more to look forward to than just updated graphics, though; the game will offer multiple control schemes for players, including both the original controls and a set of controls designed to be more suitable for new players. According to the developers, numerous tweaks have also been made to improve the flow of the game.

This new remake is being developed by Bluepoint, a studio with a strong pedigree for remastering games; the developer was responsible for both the God of War Collection for the PS3 and the Nathan Drake Collection for PS4. Shadow of the Colossus' original director, Fumito Ueda, is not involved with Bluepoint, however. He spoke about the upcoming remake at Gamelab earlier this year, offering some comments and explaining his reticence to offer any critiques of the Bluepoint remake.

Although plans for a Shadow of the Colossus movie seem to have stalled, fans of the game can look forward to February for the release of the upcoming remake, which looks set to be a notable step forward for the acclaimed title.

Shadow of the Colossus releases on February 6th, exclusively for the PS4.
