Netflix announced Shadow and Bone season 2, created by Eric Heisserer, will return in early 2023, marking a two-year gap between seasons.Based on Leigh Bardugo's The Grishaverse, Netflix's Shadow and Bone follows an orphan and cartographer named Alina (Jessie Mei Li). After discovering she has the gift of special powers that could save the world, her efforts as a "Grisha” are thwarted by King Kirigan, a.k.a. The Darkling (Ben Barnes). Alina learns she shares a connection with King Kirigan that is both antagonistic and irresistible.Netflix announced Shadow and Bone season 2 will premiere on March 16, 2023. The second season will be based on the second novel, Storm and Seige. Netflix offered up Shadow and Bone season 2 sneak peek in September, and fans know Darkling has amassed a larger army of shadow monsters and Grisha recruits. “The Grishaverse also expands in this season, both in mythology and in characters. Riding a steady wave of interest in the sci-fi fantasy genre, driven by old-fashioned reader influence and platforms like Tik Tok and Instagram, the Shadow and Bone books have been popular enough to garner a substantial fan following for the series before it premiered. This following increased among general audiences when Netflix dropped the series in 2021, bringing new readers to the books and new viewers to the adaptation.Fans also praised the performance of Ben Barnes as King Kirigan, a villainous favorite in Shadow and Bone.
