Seth Rogen's latest project, An American Pickle, will soon be out on HBO Max after making the decision to skip a theater release in favor of streaming. Now, a new trailer gives viewers a better idea of what to expect from the affable comedy star.

The film features a dual role for Rogen, playing Herschel Greenbaum, a man working in a pickle factory in 1920 who falls into a vat of pickles and is preserved via brining. He somehow emerges in present-day Brooklyn and meets his great-grandson, Ben Greenbaum (also Rogen of course), and cultural misunderstandings ensue. The project marks one of many for Rogen, who is also looking to reboot the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the near future.

In this new trailer for An American Pickle, much of the 2-minute preview is devoted to Herschel and Ben not seeing eye-to-eye, but learning to accept one another. The dual role seems a slight departure from Rogen's usual stoner comedy persona. While the film does give the actor the opportunity to go for laughs, the trailer hints at hitting some earnest notes along the way.

With the uncertainty surrounding when movie theaters will be safe to reopen, it is no surprise that the film is moving to streaming and foregoing theaters altogether. An American Pickle will be debuting on HBO Max, the streaming platform where viewers will find Rogen's upcoming animated comedy Santa Inc as well.

An American Pickle will premiere on HBO Max on August 6th.
