Serious Sam is back for the first time since Serious Sam 3: BFE's release in 2011. Serious Sam 4, the highly anticipated shooter sequel from Croteam, will deliver a massively polished and expanded experience, which is exactly what Serious Sam fans would expect after a 9-year wait. However, it seems that fans may end up waiting a little longer than previously expected.

In a short trailer released on Thursday morning, Croteam confirmed that Serious Sam 4 wouldn't be meeting its previously announced August release window. The Serious Sam 4 trailer depicts a Beheaded Kamikaze charging at the word AUGUST, shaped like it's made out of stone. At the last second, the August letting flies into the air and a new release date of September 26 is shown behind it. The Kamikaze, naturally, charges into the new release date and explodes.

No specific reason for Serious Sam 4's delay was cited, so it can probably be assumed to be the standard reasons for game delayed. Perhaps Croteam just needed an extra month of time to finish preparing the game for launch, or the COVID-19 pandemic negatively affected development in a way that wasn't predictable. Whatever the reason, delays are common right now and Serious Sam fans will hopefully be understanding.

The new Serious Sam 4 release date does position it in a more challenging window than before, however. Whereas August doesn't have many major game releases, September has games including Marvel's Avengers and Mafia: Definitive Edition, which launches a day after Serious Sam 4. Nevertheless, Serious Sam 4's unique style and cult following will very likely ensure it's a success, despite it being years since the last game's release.

Serious Sam 4 releases September 24 on PC and Stadia, with consoles to follow in 2021.
