Sega is one of the biggest video game companies around, with their status as a publisher elevating quite a bit in modern times after releasing a string of highly successful games that fans absolutely adore. The company dabbled in console development for a while but didn't manage to make a dent in Nintendo's sales, forcing them to scale down their operations. However, this wasn't necessary for the worse, since most players are well aware of just how widespread Sega's influence is in the gaming landscape.

Various games published by Sega have become quite popular in their own right, featuring several characters that have become enduring facets of pop culture in their own right. Some of these characters can seem deceptively weak yet feature extremely powerful skills and abilities that can turn the tide of battle in an instant. Keeping this in mind, here are some Sega characters who are pretty weak but still boast extremely overpowered abilities.

8 Zero (Bayonetta)

Little King Zero in Bayonetta

Bayonetta is one of the best action game series of all time, with the third game being another smash hit for Nintendo. Of course, most people forget that the first title was actually commissioned by none other than Sega themselves.

There are two other playable characters aside from Bayonetta in the first game, Jeanne and Zero. The latter does a crazy amount of damage... but each hit shaves off 7900 HP from his health bar. This means that only two hits are all it requires to take down this powerful yet fragile fighter.

7 Arbalist (Etrian Odyssey 3)

Etrian Odyssey 3

The Arbalist isn't exactly a character per se, with Etrian Odyssey focusing more on classes than anything else. There are several glass cannons present across the series, and the third game has a perfect character class for this list.

The Arbalists have a high Strength stat, but sacrifice both Vitality and Agility in the process. Their most powerful attacks are more efficient from the front row, meaning that players need to place them in the line of fire to actually maximize their damage potential.

6 Sonic (Sonic The Hedgehog)

Best Characters in Netflix's Sonic Prime Sonic the Hedgehog

Everyone's favorite blue hedgehog is one of the most popular video game characters of all time. Watching Sonic run circles around his enemies and leaving them in the dust never ceases to be entertaining.

However, while Sonic might be one of the fastest video game characters of all time, he's definitely not the most durable one. The speedster loses all his rings in one shot, following which a single attack can spell his end.

5 Naoto Shirogane (Persona 4)

Naoto Shirogane from Persona 4

Persona 4 is one of the many celebrated entries in this beloved JRPG series. Tracking down a serial killer in Inaba makes for a great tale, with the main cast being quite likable in their own right.

One of the characters who join the party pretty late on is Naoto Shirogane, who actually learns a diverse range of powerful magic spells along with all the Hama and Mudo abilities in the game. However, as one would expect from a character adept in magic, she isn't exactly all that durable in combat.

4 Amanda Ripley (Alien: Isolation)

Alien: Isolation is one of the best combinations of the horror and immersive sim genre. The end result is a brilliant title that was a sleeper hit and is a must-play, especially for fans of the Aliens franchise.

The protagonist of the game, Amanda Ripley, is quite adept at a wide variety of skills, including hacking and shooting. However, she can easily be downed in a few hits from enemies, and that's not even mentioning the one-shot capacity of the Xenomorph that is stalking the halls of the Sevastopol space station.

3 Deathmaster Snikch (Total War: Warhammer)

Deathmaster Snikch in Total War Warhammer

Total War: Warhammer is easily one of the best games in the series, combining the best of both Total War 's strategic gameplay and simulation elements along with the rich lore of the Warhammer franchise. The end result is an amazing tactical fantasy title that more people need to check out.

The game is full to the brim with several unique and memorable characters, including Deathmaster Snikch. The chief assassin of Lord Sneek is lightly armored and can be easily overwhelmed because of his lack of armor, but he will always overpower a hero in a melee battle if he manages to close the distance.

2 The Main Trio (Resonance Of Fate)

The three player characters in special costumes in Resonance of Fate

Resonance of Fate is one of the most unique JRPGs of all time. The drab and aggressively gray aesthetic of the game masks a wonderful combat system that is full to the brim with panache. However, it's also extremely tactical, and a single misstep can turn the gun-toting trio into nothing more than glorified targets for the enemy to decimate with their attacks.

Resonance of Fate uses Bezels to govern a bunch of things, from hero actions to the damage that a party member takes. Losing all Bezels leaves characters in Critical Mode, with these powerful gunners shivering in their boots since they are unable to even land a decent attack, let alone protect themselves.

1 Ethan Thomas (Condemned: Criminal Origins)

Fighting enemies in Condemned: Criminal Origins

Condemned: Criminal Origins is a great horror game that more people need to check out. The story of detective Ethan Thomas as he's thrust into a mind-bending case full to the brim with scary personalities makes for a great time.

The highlight of Condemned: Criminal Origins is easily its combat system. Ethan can dish out a ton of punishment with either his guns or fists... but the inverse is also true, with the player being downed in just a few shots if they're not careful enough.
