For many nostalgic Sonic fans, Sonic Origins seemed to be one of the best games to pick up this summer. Combining four classic Sonic titles into one package, Sonic Origins not only gave older fans a chance to return to some of their favorite games, but also aimed to give new players an easy way to get into the series. As well as just remastering retro Sonic titles, Sonic Origins also added Mirror Mode, which flips the original levels to give players a new challenge, along with other new features.Despite the hype leading up to Sonic Origins, when it released, there was a mixed reception from fans. While many were glad to get their hands on their favorite games again, Sonic Origins released with a number of issues that some players could not ignore. Alongside changes to the original games, such as the removal of some music from Sonic 3, the Sonic community online has asked for the bugs within the collection to be fixed. Now, Sega has responded.Sega of America's Social Media Manager Katie Chrzanowski spoke to Sonic fans on Twitter, informing them that fixes to the bugs in the game were on the way. Chrzanowski stated that the team working on Sonic Origins had "been listening" and is currently working on "fixing a variety of issues right now." It wasn't stated when these fixes will come to Sonic Origins or how many of its issues will be solved when the first patch eventually drops, but at least fans can know that work is being done to improve the game.
Despite the vague nature of Chrzanowski's tweet, it does seem that fixes to Sonic Origins will be on the way sooner rather than later. Besides Sega releasing a statement on the problems within the game, Sonic Origins' developers have also expressed their displeasure with the current state of the remake. Headcannon's Simon Thomley recently stated that while he was proud of the team for their work on Sonic Origins, many of them were unhappy with how it released and stated that the studio is prepared to come back for post-release updates.
With one 2022 Sonic title receiving a mixed response from fans, it has placed more of a burden on Sega's upcoming open-world title featuring the famous blue hedgehog. Sonic Frontiers is under a lot of pressure right now, and the passionate Sonic fan base is watching with keen eyes to ensure this ambitious project manages to meet expectations. Already, concerns are growing, but it is possible Sonic Frontiers could prove its doubters wrong later this year.
