While Disney Plus has still not officially said when Secret Invasion is hitting the streaming platform, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige is finally sharing some important details about the show. In particular, Feige has divulged when the six-episode series takes place.

There has actually already been a few hints about when Secret Invasion might be set thanks to set photos, but Feige is now willing to totally let the cat out of the bag. More specifically, fans have long been wondering just when the invasion is set in the MCU timeline. There are three distinct periods of time in the MCU, and all of the movies fall into the category of "pre-snap," "post-snap," or right in the middle when the world is still trying to deal with the fallout of the "Blip" and before the Avengers were able to set the world straight.

According to The Hollywood Handle, Feige recently said that Marvel Studios' Secret Invasion takes place right after the snap. He explained this is a period of time when half the universe is in upheaval and Secret Invasion will explore what was going on more than any of the other Marvel Studios shows and movies have done. It turns out that Feige's explanation as to when the show is set hints at a few of the character details as well. One big plot point that might have been spoiled with the announcement is what Nick Fury and Maria Hill are going to be doing in the show. Both characters were blipped out by the snap and if they're appearing in Secret Invasion, it would seem as though they are actually Skrull replacements rather than the real S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.

While story details are still extremely scarce, it's thought that Secret Invasion will be very similar to the comic book run that featured an invading Skrull army both attacking via spaceship, but also seeding the Earth opposition with spies that were duplicates of real superheroes. Now it appears Fury and Hill will both be part of the invading force rather than among the group put together to fight the aliens off. That is unless the series only partly takes place directly after the Blip, which Feige implied.

Of course, there are still other questions about why Queen Veranke and her army is attacking Earth at all, considering that it was well-established that earth's heroes and the Skrull were allies after the events of Captain Marvel. There are also questions to be answered as to why this invasion has never been mentioned in the movies and shows that are all set after everyone comes back from the blip and therefore after the events of the upcoming show.

Secret Invasion is expected to premiere on Disney Plus in late 2022.
