Warning: The following contains spoilers for Secret Invasion episode 3.Secret Invasion proved right out of the gate that fan-favorite characters weren’t safe from the Skrull rebellion. While revealing one Marvel Cinematic Universe mainstay as a Skrull, the series has also killed one fan-favorite character who has been by Nick Fury’s side for a decade. Episode 3, however, sees another character seemingly killed in action while working against the Skrull rebellion, but is that character really dead?

Secret Invasion is a spy thriller that ups the stakes for the MCU. Though the conflict might be a global one as a rebel faction of Skrulls seek to take over the planet for themselves, it’s also a personal one for the characters directly involved. Nick Fury is married to a Skrull and his biggest ally for the last 30 years is a Skrull with a wife and daughter who have been caught up in the rebellion. Working as a spy thriller, both the rebels and those who seek to stop them are using more covert tactics to get their way, and that results in one character meeting a bullet from Gravik in episode 3.

What Happened To G'iah In Secret Invasion Episode 3?

G'iah in Secret Invasion

G’iah and her father Talos have seemingly been at odds for a long time. Like Gravik, G’iah has grown restless having to hide in plain on Earth. She’s become a part of the Skrull rebellion, providing sanctuary for Skrulls on the run, but also helping Gravik with his plans as one of his undercover operatives in the field. She also, however, has been feeding information to her father every time she thinks the cost of life is too high. G’iah gives him information about a bomb threat as well as the launch of nuclear bombs against the United Nations. It’s the latter that has Gravik discover who his mole is.

When G’iah attempts to escape the Skrull sanctuary in episode 3 of Secret Invasion, she is stopped by Gravik and fatally shot, reverting to her Skrull form from her human undercover persona. That would seem to imply that G’iah is dead without Fury or Talos knowing what’s happened to her.

Why It's Unlikely Secret Invasion Already Killed G'iah

It’s unlikely, however, that G’iah is already dead in Secret Invasion. After all, her mother died off-screen to provide an emotional connection for her and her father again, and Maria Hill was also killed by Gravik in the aftermath of the bombing in Secret Invasion episode 1. It’s in poor taste for Secret Invasion to kill off one of its only other prominent female characters half-way through the season. There are only three major female characters in the series now, one is a frenemy of Fury, the other is his wife, and the third is G’iah.

G’iah’s death so soon is also unlikely because, despite Secret Invasion having global stakes, it is, at its heart, a spy thriller. It’s much more likely that G’iah survives the shot from Gravik to surprise him with help for her father and Fury later in the season. While her death might motivate Talos to act even more firmly against Gravik, “fridging” is a serious problem in comic book properties, killing off female heroes in order to propel the male heroes forward. Secret Invasion has already essentially done that twice in the first episode with the deaths of Soren and Maria Hill.

There’s also the more practical matter that there are additional scenes with G’iah, or at the very least, her human form, that appeared in the Secret Invasion trailer that haven’t happened in the first three episodes. While those could have been cut scenes or misdirects from Marvel, they feature the character with weapons and in fighting situations, so it’s still possible that they’re coming in the next batch of episodes.

How G'iah Might Survive Her Wound

Because Skrulls are shapeshifters, it is theoretically possible that they could survive a gunshot by shapeshifting back and forth to different forms in an attempt to heal that tissue. G’iah might try to do that. That hasn’t been seen in the series though, and the only Skrull shown to be able to heal incredibly quickly is Gravik, though his healing is aided by experimentation with Extremis.

That means there are two other possibilities for G’iah after being shot. She could have known that her time feeding information to her father was coming to an end and allowed Gravik to catch and shoot her in a nonlethal way. That way, Gravik believes she’s dead, and she still has the element of surprise later. The other possibility is that G’iah has also experimented with the DNA samples that would allow her to become a Super Skrull as Gravik has been planning on doing for himself. That would put them in a standoff in the later episodes as, potentially, the first Skrulls with superpowers. Either option means that G’iah lives to fight another day.
