The world of Sea Of Thieves gives players plenty of room to explore, with tons of islands to stop by and secrets hidden on each one. Players can keep busy with various quests for treasure, but players can also keep track of any world events that are occurring.

Among the different world events that could happen is the Ashen Winds, a battle that players are invited to take part in that can result in getting some great loot that can be sold later. All sailors need to do is be ready to take on some of the most difficult Skeleton Lords in the game.

What Are The Ashen Winds?

The Ashen Winds is a summoning ritual that is performed by Ashen Skeletons, led by the notorious Captain Flameheart. After the ritual is done, one of four Ashen Skeleton Lords will be summoned to take on the crews that are there. This takes place as one of the rotating World Events and is indicated by the Ashen Winds Cloud, which looks like a red tornado. When arriving, players will see the ritual taking place and can start the battle upon approaching the skeletons, indicating that the ritual is complete. Players should not go there alone.

Where Can It Take Place?

The Ashen Winds ritual takes place on select Large Islands throughout the open world. The list includes Kraken's Fall, Shipwreck Bay, Marauder's Arch, Cannon Cove, Wanderers Refuge, Mermaid's Hideaway, and Devil's Ridge. With the exception of Devil's Ridge, each of these islands has its own Ammo Chest nearby that can be used to reload while taking on the skeletons. Water tends to be right near the spawn sights as well, which can be useful for players who are on fire and need to get out of harm's way.

Who Are The Ashen Lords?

Players who take part in the Ashen Winds world event will not have to worry about taking on all four Ashen Skeleton Lords, but one is tough enough to defeat especially for beginners. The four lords are Captain Grimm, Red Ruth, Old Horatio, and Warden Chi.

These four are loyal to Captain Flameheart and have a firey aesthetic to them. All four will also taunt the players in battle. While they are all different in appearance, they all share the same attacks and have about the same health.

Who Is Captain Grimm?

Captain Grimm is a broad Skeleton Lord in stature who has a hook for a left hand and a fiery beard. When speaking to Duke, players will find out that Captain Grimm is the one responsible for building Captain Flameheart's various lairs as well as the Fortresses that are scattered throughout the world. The main purpose of these locations was to protect any treasure that they had stolen and give them a foundation to fight anyone who dare try to steal it themselves.

Who Is Red Ruth?

Red Ruth is a tall Skeleton Lord who is has a super fiery right arm and what looks like a ruby as her belt buckle. Duke will tell players that Red Ruth was an alchemist and is actually the one who developed the Cursed Cannonballs that can be used by players in combat. She helped develop many weapons that were used by Flameheart's Crew on the Burning Blade. The Cursed Cannonballs were once believed to be invented by Wanda the Warsmith and Salty, the latter of which was turned into a bird because of the experiments.

Who Is Old Horatio?

Old Horatio has white air and a white beard, likely hinting at his "age." However, he is also among the most damaged looking Skeleton Lords as many of his clothes look tattered and he is also bandaged up on his arms. According to Duke, this Skeleton Lord was the Shipwright of Captain Flameheart's army. This means he was responsible for building the ships, likely including the Ashen Dragon. He was also a recruiter for the fleet, encouraging other skeletons to join in their fight against the world.

Who Is Warden Chi?

The last Skeleton Lord is Warden Chi, who has a ruby belt buckle and fiery eyebrows that look like antlers, making her the most maniacal looking of the bunch. Through the same reliable source of Duke, players can find out that Warden Chi was the prison warden for Captain Flameheart's jail.

Her role was to torture and stay in charge of anyone who the captain wanted alive that they captured. The Ashen Dragon insignia can be found on her clothes, making her the only Ashen Skeleton Lord to have it.

What Is The Battle Like?

The Ashen Wind's battle is split into three phases. In the first phase, the Skeleton Lord will have six different attacks it can use against the player. When it gets down to 75 percent health, it will kneel on the ground and become vulnerable for a brief period. It will then stand and start the second phase where it gains the Shockwave attack. Once they are down to 50 percent health, the Ashen Lord will once again kneel for a short time before getting up and reaching their true form. In the third and longest phase, they will have their Volcanic Eruption ability.

What Are The Ashen Lords' Different Attacks?

The Ashen Lords have eight total attacks, two of which are unlocked in later phases of the fight. Their initial attacks include a basic melee attack, fire breath, a lunge attack, and the ability to throw both small and large boulders. There's also the ability to summon skeletons and also cast an Ash Cloud that will hinder a player's sight and hearing. In the second phase, the Shockwave can cause players to be flown while also being set on fire. In the third wave, the Volcanic Eruption will cause geysers to rise from the ground, water to turn lava hot, and rocks to fall from the sky.

What Can Be Earned From Beating It?

Defeating the Ashen Lord will earn crews a nice reward. Three things players will earn upon the event ending are the Ashen Winds Skull, a Chest of Rage, and a Ritual Skull. The Ashen Winds Skull is not only a Bounty Skull that can earn a crew lots of gold but it also can be used as a weapon as it still breathes fire like the Ashen Lords themselves. Other treasures that can be earned are any type of Ashen Treasure Chests, Devil's Roar Artefacts, Ashen Bounty Skulls, Devil's Roar Trade Good Crates, A Collector's Chest, and an unlocked Ashen Chest.
