Since its initial launch in March of 2018, Sea of Thieves has grown into a massive game with consistent support from Rare over the first three-plus years since its release. The swash-buckling action-adventure game has seen constant updates adding new content to the game, with the recent Season 4 adding Siren Shrines and plenty of new rewards and cosmetics. Now, with Season 5 on the horizon, Rare has released a full trailer detailing the numerous additions coming to the pirate adventure game.

Sea of Thieves had already been teasing some of the new content coming to season 5 through the game's official Twitter account. Videos posted to the account teased the ability for players to bury their hard-earned treasure and ships being able to set off signal flares for pirates adventuring on the islands. The full 8-minute-long trailer for Sea of Thieves' newest season gives players more details on the many unique features coming to the game later this week, as well as showing off plenty of new cosmetics.

The full trailer details the plethora of new content coming to Sea of Thieves for the launch of its fifth season on December 2nd, headlined by the previously mentioned buried treasure. Players will be able to bury their treasure on the game's many islands for storage and for other players to discover. This creates treasure maps for pirates who bury their hard-earned treasure and rewards them if another player finds their hidden booty. The update will also add a variety of fireworks and flares, useful for players looking to get into the season's festive spirit or send signals to exploring crewmates.

Sea of Thieves is also adding a variety of cosmetic options to the game. The most noteworthy is a continuation of the Pirates of the Caribbean collab, adding a skin for one of the franchise's primary antagonists, Barbossa. The game will also feature plenty of festive and party-themed cosmetics for players to acquire, with some dazzling sails like the 'Boreal Aurora' set transforming a ship's sails into a stunning design based on the Northern Lights.

Since shifting to a seasonal content schedule late last year, Sea of Thieves has seen a constant stream of content throughout 2021, with Rare adding several new features to the game over the year. Season 3 introduced tons of Pirates of the Caribbean-themed content with Jack Sparrow as a fully functioning crewmate, and the fourth season added tons of shrines and treasure for players to discover on the high seas.

Sea of Thieves has remained one of the most popular open-world games in 2021, and Season 5's new content looks to bolster the game's swash-buckling appeal even more.

Sea of Thieves is available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with the Season 5 update launching December 2nd.
