At the Xbox Games Showcase, Rare revealed an early look at Sea of Thieves Season 13 and committed to a July 25 release date for the update. Considering Season 12 of Sea of Thieves was released back in April, there's a good gap between content updates. The main event of Season 13 is a brand-new world event, in which players can take charge of Flameheart's flagship and "become the boss fight," with players able to become the villain in-game. This is a first for the series, giving players a huge spin on the traditional gameplay formula in Sea of Thieves.

It isn't clear exactly how this will work in practice. The World Events in Sea of Thieves are extremely common to find, and it'll be interesting to see how Rare approaches numerous players playing the villain on the same server. It could simply be a case of villains being pitted against other villains, but it's an interesting prospect to consider. With a short while still to go before the release of Sea of Thieves Season 13, hopefully Rare will clarify this in the coming weeks.

It's an awesome time to be jumping into Sea of Thieves. It has more content than ever before, and with more on the way, there's plenty to enjoy for new and returning players. Importantly, the new player experience isn't too overwhelming, meaning that anyone is able to hop into one of the best co-op open-world games and have a good time with it, even if they're not familiar with the mechanics.
