Sea of Thieves is a game that has done commendably well in learning from its shortcomings by altering its play style and implementing new content to keep things fresh. While Rare has achieved this in a variety of ways, the cutting of already established content is a sad but necessary byproduct that is sometimes implemented.

With the cutting of certain content from the game in order to make way for fresher content in Sea of Thieves, in-game achievements for cut content can be affected quite significantly. Achievements directly relating to content that is no longer accessible are completely non-unlockable, unable to be attained by anyone bar the lucky few who had already unlocked them.

Locked Achievements - The Arena

Most, if not all, of the currently locked achievements within Sea of Thieves are directly related to the Arena mode of the game. A timed competitive PvP team-based experience, the Arena mode of Sea of Thieves was shut down in March 2022, making a litany of achievements tied to the Arena no longer unlockable.

  • Show Your Colors (Legacy) - Worth 30 gamerscore, this achievement required players to play a full match of the Arena mode aboard each of the five differently colored ships that the game mode boasted before being scrapped.
  • Rum 'n' Bass (Legacy) - Only worth 10 gamerscore, this particular achievement is also tied to the bygone Arena, requiring a crew of four players to play any of the instruments that have proven popular in Sea of Thieves within an Arena match.
  • Nice Pirates Finish Last (Legacy) - Worth 20 gamerscore, this locked achievement required players to steal a chest from a rival crew during an Arena match. As a part of the PvP competition of Arena matches, the successful capture of chests was a key factor to earning points, with the stealing of chests from other crews being a quite common facet of Arena gameplay.
  • Hot Tub Crime Machine (Legacy) - Worth 25 gamerscore, this was one of the more comical and easily unlockable of the now-locked achievements. It simply required at least one of each crew to stand within a hot tub that was present within the lobby hub of the Arena mode.
  • Capture the Swag (Legacy) - Worth 30 gamerscore, this achievement required strategy and speed, with players needing to successfully capture a chest before five in-game minutes had passed.
  • Pints Mean Prizes (Legacy) - Worth only 10 gamerscore, this was another comical Arena-tied achievement. It simply required players to capture a chest while having the drunk effect of having drank "grog."
  • Fortune and Glory (Legacy) - Worth 30 gamerscore, this was one of the more time-consuming of the Arena achievements. This particular achievement required players to accumulate 100,000 total Silver via Arena matches.
  • Captain of Silvered Waters (Legacy) - Also worth 30 gamerscore, this locked achievement shares the temporal difficulty of Fortune and Glory. This achievement required players to place in the Top Three Players 100 times within the Arena mode.
  • Sailor of Silvered Waters (Legacy) - Worth 35 gamerscore, this one would have also taken a long time. This achievement required players to complete 200 matches of the now scrapped Arena mode.
  • Legend of Silvered Waters (Legacy) - Worth a huge 50 gamerscore, this achievement is one of the most coveted. This achievement required players to place first in 100 Arena matches whilst using the Pirate Legend title.

Partially Locked Achievements - The Arena

There are some Arena achievements that are still technically unlockable by certain players despite the current absence of the mode. In total, there are two Arena achievements that are still potentially unlockable.

  • Master of the Arena - Worth 35 gamerscore, this achievement requires players to be level 50 within the Sea Dogs Alliance. If at this level, some players may be able to purchase the Arena Masters promotion before it is discontinued.
  • Glorious Sea Dog (Legacy) - Worth 10 gamerscore, this achievement can potentially still be unlocked by players who unlocked the Captain of Silvered Waters achievement. If they meet this prerequisite, players can purchase the Glorious Sea Dogs clothing from the store and unlock this achievement.

Sea of Thieves is available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
