Sea of Stars has some weird monsters and gimmicky bosses. During Sea of Star's 40-hour run time, players will come across ninja frogs, zombies that pose and dance, and a number of other weird critters.
While it's usually pretty easy to see how to defeat most enemies, there is one boss that has a lot of people scratching their heads. This is the Leaf and Root boss, who is located at the end of the Autumn Hills. This boss doesn't seem to take damage, and it can be challenging to figure out what its gimmick is while avoiding a potential game-breaking bug.

How to Summon the Leaf and Root Boss in Autumn Hills in Sea of Stars
This weird little monster starts life as a pile of branches at the end of the Autumn Hills. In order to summon it to do turn-based combat with it, players will need to first push all the piles of leaves into the pile of roots with the Mistral Bracelet wind push. Once all the leaves are pushed into the branch pile, then use the Solstice Amulet to change the time of day. As the day turns to night and the moon rises, a glowing circle will form around the pile of leaves and roots. The monster will then wake up as the moon reaches its zenith.
How to Defeat the Leaf and Root Boss in Sea of Stars
As players probably immediately notice, this monster doesn't take any damage no matter what any of the characters hit it with. In order to hurt it, Sea of Stars players will have to wait until it has thrown all of its leaves away.
It has a boomerang attack called Leaf Throw that removes all of its leaves, making it naked. A couple of turns later, the leaves will boomerang back, hitting the player's Sea of Stars character and putting the boss' leafy clothing back on. During turns when the monster has no leaves, it is vulnerable to attack.
It doesn't appear to be weak against any particular kind of attack, so just use the best Sea of Stars combo attacks to knock its health down. Hit it with everything until it gets its leaves back, then use basic attacks to rebuild mana for its next Leaf Throw.
The Game-Breaking Bug in the Autumn Hills Leaf and Root Boss in Sea of Stars
There have been a handful of players of this classic JRPG-inspired game on both Reddit and the Steam Community forums that have mentioned that using Resh'an the Immortal Alchemist in the fight can potentially trigger a game-breaking bug. While this remains unconfirmed, it appears to only have happened if Resh'an was hit with the Leaf Boss' Paincone attack. In order to avoid this potential bug, it's best to keep the Immortal Alchemist out of the party during this fight.
