Sea of Stars is a typical RPG adventure harkening back to the golden age of the 80s and 90s. Players will begin their journey with Valere and Zale but they will meet others along the way. There are a total of six playable characters in the game and they can all equip a variety of gear.

They can all hold a weapon, a piece of armor, two normal accessories, and one special accessory marked by gold icons. There are a lot of names for accessories in the game but they are referred to mainly as Trinkets. For clarity’s sake, this rundown of the best Trinkets in Sea of Stars will just stick with accessories.

8 Cornucopia

Cornucopia accessory in Sea of Stars

Cornucopia is one of the special gold accessories in the game and it does the simple job of increasing the party’s HP by twenty. That’s unique not just for Sea of Stars, but for a lot of RPGs too. That’s not to say Cornucopia is the only group accessory in the game because it isn’t. Typically accessories benefit the individual and not the whole group. This applies to party members outside of combat as well which makes sense. There is, after all, a swap-out mechanic during combat similar to Final Fantasy 10.

7 Eye Of Yomara

Eye Of Yomara accessory in Sea of Stars

One of the most basic spells or skills found in an RPG will let players scan enemies to find out their HP and weaknesses. For example, in Final Fantasy 7, the spell is attached to a Materia called Sense. For Sea of Stars, players can get an early accessory called Abacus which will automatically display HP for enemies even if that character isn’t in battle. It’s fine for a good chunk of the game until players can uncover Eye of Yomara which will also automatically display the strengths and weaknesses of enemies. Both of these accessories are special gold ones and this scanning ability doesn’t work on bosses.

6 Leeching Thorn

The item system is a bit unique for an RPG. Instead of buying potions, players can buy or find ingredients on their travels. They can then cook up snacks to heal in various ways. Cooking isn’t a new concept for RPGs but cooked goods being the only usable items is odd as is the ten-dish limit.

A lot of the characters have healing skills as well to help out in battle. Plus there are accessories like Leeching Thorn to equip. This accessory will heal the user of 15% of however much damage they just did to the enemy.

5 Spirit Of Ninja

Spirit Of Ninja accessory in Sea of Stars

Spirit of Ninja sounds like it is an accessory aimed primarily at Serai, but anyone can equip it. It’s another special gold one and it helps build the Combo meter up by 10%. Sea of Stars shares a lot of similarities with Chrono Trigger and perhaps the biggest example of this is in battle via these aforementioned Combos. Combos in Sea of Stars are like the Double Tech attacks in Chrono Trigger except that they don’t use MP. Instead, players will build up this Combo meter to earn points which they can then spend on attacks or supportive skills.

4 Dextrous Bangle

Even veterans who are used to the timed button presses of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars may need help in Sea of Stars. It can be tricky to know when to hit the boost or counter buttons when in battle. There is no tutorial that will run through every enemy attack or every hero skill in the game but that would be nice to see patched in. Dextrous Bangle is a seemingly ordinary accessory that will give players a 10% window for mistakes. It’s not a huge amount that will allow players to completely slack off, but that’s no reason to discourage its usage in the game.

3 Celestial Ray

Celestial Ray accessory in Sea of Stars

Celestial Ray is a gold accessory that only Valere and Zale can equip. Whoever gets it will get a boost to their magic attack power by five. They will also generate 1 MP per turn passively, stacked on top of any other accessories equipped.

The magic boost is a good bonus because there are a lot of enemies in the game that are only weak to Valere’s and Zale’s moon and sun attacks. This is a natural strategy tip to convey for an RPG, but the more MP characters have, the better.

2 Solstice Mage Ring

Solstice Mage Ring accessory in Sea of Stars

Solstice Mage Ring is a killer accessory, part of the gold special line, but it has a restriction. It is another that only Valere and Zale can equip it but the good news is that the accessory’s effects will work on everyone. If players block an enemy’s attack, they can regain 1 MP. This game has a combat quirk similar to Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars in that perfectly executed attacks or blocks will result in extra attack power or damage will be reduced. That’s why it is not strange to see an accessory like this reward players with a bonus like MP, which is invaluable in Sea of Stars.

1 Signet Of Clarity

Signet Of Clarity accessory in Sea of Stars

Signet of Clarity is on par with the Solstice Mage Ring. Surprisingly it is an ordinary accessory with no restrictions as to who can wear it. This accessory will reduce the cost of skills by 1 MP for that user. For example, Zale has a destructive fireball-like technique called Sunball which will hit multiple targets if positioned right. It costs eight MP naturally, but the Signet of Clarity will knock that down to only seven MP. These two accessories paired together will make an excellent combo and will allow players to cast more magic to speed up the turn-based battles.

Sea of Stars was released on August 29, 2023, and is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
