It turns out that reports of a new Scribblenauts crossing over with the DC Comics universe were accurate. Warner Bros. Interactive today officially announced that Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure is indeed in development and will be coming to the Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, and PC later this year.

As one would expect from any Scribblenauts title, let alone one featuring recognizable heroes and villains from the world of DC, there will be a surreal number of objects that can be summoned into existence thanks to Maxwell's magical notepad. This also means that nothing that's associated with DC Comics is off limits for the developers at 5th Cell — allowing players to summon an arsenal of paraphernalia and personalities from the superhero-filled brand.

Players will suit up as Maxwell and traverse through multiple areas that are heavily associated with DC Comics. Gotham City, Metropolis, Atlantis, and more can be explored in Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure, and each area is filled with puzzles and challenges for gamers to complete.

One major feature that 5th Cell believes will provide users with an abundance of replayability is the addition of Heroic Feats. This gameplay option randomly generates puzzles for players to solve, and will require different solutions every time players visit this mode. The dynamic structure of Heroic Feats will keep Maxwell on his toes, but there's also another new feature that DC fans will enjoy.

Wii U and PC versions of the game will come with a Super Hero Creator tool that allows players to create their own heroes and villains. Fortunately, combining any elements from the DC universe into one entity is much easier than it sounds, and these creations will help players accomplish various tasks depending on the qualities users give them. If an individual is particularly proud of the Killer Croc/Catwoman hybrid they've created, then they can even upload the character for other players to download.

Scribblenauts Unmasked sounds like it'll be filled to the brim with content that comic book fans and series regulars will love. Given that the most recent installment, Scribblenauts Unlimited, featured Super Mario and Zelda characters, there's a chance that they'll once again appear. Gamers shouldn't get their hopes up over that prospect, but it would be quite a sight to see Bowser go up against the likes of the caped crusader.

Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure will be arriving on the 3DS, Wii U, and PC this Fall.
