The recently released Scream 6 has finally addressed one of the franchise's biggest fan theories and lingering questions: is Stu Macher still alive? Scream fans have been wondering about Stu's fate since the original Scream movie, but now they need to wonder no longer.

Please note this article will have MAJOR SPOILERS for the entire Scream franchise, including Scream 6Stu Macher was one of the killers in the original Scream movie, alongside Billy Loomis. At the end of the first Scream, the shocking reveal is made that the Ghostface killer is actually two people, with Stu and Billy working in tandem to commit their murder spree. Their plan was to frame Sidney's father for the killings, and so the two of them stab each other to sell the ruse. Stu loses a lot of blood in the process, and is then ultimately killed after Sidney drops a TV on his head.

Despite this, many Scream fans have held on to the belief that Stu Macher is secretly alive. These theories largely stem from comments made by Stu actor Matthew Lillard. According to Lillard, Scream 3 was originally going to reveal that Stu had survived the events of the first movie and was leading a new group of Ghostface killers in murdering high school students. Ultimately, these plans were scrapped after the real-life Columbine High School massacre.

Is Stu Alive?

Unfortunately for Scream franchise fans that may want to see Stu Macher make a comeback, Scream 6 has fairly definitively laid the theories to rest by confirming his death. There is a lingering shot in the film that shows Stu Macher's photo and confirms that he died in 1996. Mindy, the niece of the Jamie Kennedy's character Randy from the first two Scream movies, does mention that there are people who are convinced that Stu is still alive, though, which does leave the door slightly ajar to the possibility that he could still make a comeback one day.

Who Are the Killers in Scream 6?

With Scream 6 confirming that Stu is dead, it obviously means that he's not one of the killers in the latest movie in the series. The answer as to who the Scream 6 killers are is somewhat complicated, as the movie starts with two potential Ghostface killers only to kill them off and go with a new trio of killers. The end of the movie confirms that the Scream 6 killers are none other than the Bailey family of Quinn, Wayne, and Ethan, all hoping to get revenge on Sam for her killing their brother Richie in the previous Scream movie.
