Just last year, Scream VI was put on the fast track to production following the success of the fifth film in the franchise. Now, fans of the meta-slasher series can get their first look at the latest iteration of Ghostface, along with new and returning cast members in the newest movie's first trailer.

The most notable aspect of the new Scream may be its location. Scream VI will be the third movie to leave the idyllic California town of Woodsboro, this time placing the action squarely in Manhattan. This move puts it more in line with Scream 3, which saw Ghostface hunting his victims in Los Angeles. Judging by some of the scenes in the trailer, it looks like the setting will be put to good use for some effective horror setpieces.

Returning from the previous movie are main characters Sam and Tara Carpenter (played by Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, respectively). While the trailer doesn't give too much away in terms of the movie's plot, what is obvious is that there is, as is tradition, a new Ghostface. However, unlike previous iterations of the killer, this one appears far more comfortable working right out in the open, killing two people in a crowded bodega before hunting the Carpenter sisters with a shotgun. Ortega previously said that this is the most violent Ghostface yet, and this trailer doesn't appear to contradict that statement.

Along with Barrera and Ortega, Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy-Brown will be returning as twins Chad and Mindy Meeks-Martin. While this will be the first Scream not to feature Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, Franchise veteran Courteney Cox will be back as Gayle Weathers, along with Hayden Panettiere reprising the role of Kirby Reed from Scream 4. Newcomers to the franchise include Samara Weaving, Tony Revolori, Liana Liberato, Henry Czerny, Dermot Mulroney, and Devyn Nekoda,

This will only be the second movie in the Scream franchise not to be directed by the late Wes Craven or written by series originator Kevin Williamson (whose latest horror movie, Sick, looks to reinvent the slasher genre once again). However, previous directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (often credited as Radio Silence) and writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick will remain at the helm. Their first take on the franchise focused on the idea of re-quels and toxic fandom, so it will be interesting to see what tropes and rules will be picked apart in this latest entry, which seems poised to take everything Scream is famous for to the next level.

Scream VI hits theaters on March 10th.
