Scream 6 is set to move the action away from Woodsboro and into the Big Apple. To mark this setting change, the horror franchise has released a new poster that pays homage to New York City's famous subway system.

Scream 6 is set to be the first Scream film without Neve Campbell. Campbell played Sidney Prescott in the first five installments of the franchise. Prescott was frequently harassed by murderers wearing the iconic Ghostface outfit, each targeting her for their own nefarious reasons. Now, the action has shifted to a new generation: Melissa Barrera plays Sam Carpenter, the daughter of Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich), who struggles with her parentage while trying to protect her younger half-sister Tara (Jenna Ortega).

The official Scream Twitter account unveiled the new poster, which features the names of victims from the first five films at different stops along the subway. Each film forms its own line and culminates in an endpoint marked after Sam Carpenter. When viewed head-on, the subway lines form the Ghostface mask.

The first Scream 6 teaser promised tons of gore in New York City, and this poster highlights the number of kills in the franchise. It also has a few Easter eggs for fans: for instance, when examined more closely, fans can see that Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere) is marked as a "closed" station, a reference to Panettiere's return to the franchise. It was thought that Kirby died in Scream 4, but she survived the events of that film (although her survival occurred off-screen) and will be back for Scream 6.

The fact that the Scream 6 poster draws many connections to Sam does not bode well for her character. Nearly every character on the poster is dead, and it looks like Sam is the main target for whoever the new Ghostface is. Scream 6 may play with the Final Girl trope as other films in the series have, meaning Sam Carpenter could fall victim to the killer in her second movie.

That would presumably make Jenna Ortega's Tara the protagonist of any Scream sequels. If the poster does foreshadow the fates of certain characters, there's one element that could hint at the film's plot. Stu Macher's (Matthew Lillard) stop on the line is faintly colored red, and his line eventually connects with Vince Schneider (Kyle Gallner), his nephew from the fifth film. This is the only time the lines intersect other than when they all lead into Sam. The idea of Stu surviving and haunting the protagonists has been kicked around during development before, so perhaps he'll have a role to play.

Scream 6 is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 10, 2023.
