After spending quite a few years in hibernation, it appears that the Scream franchise is wasting no time at all getting back on the big screen. Less than a year after Scream 5 - officially just called Scream - hit theaters, the production team behind the next installment announced on that filming for Scream 6 has officially wrapped.

The crew for Scream 6 took to their official Instagram account in order to announce that filming was done and to commemorate the event with a giant group photo. The group also thanked producer Ron Lynch for picking Blackmore Productions set as the film's shooting location. It turns out that location is quite the theme when it comes to the next installment in the long-running series.

For now, the next movie is indeed titled Scream 6 and will at least start back out in Woodsboro, where most of the movies have been set. However, in some ways, the next film will be treading new ground, as most of its story will take place outside the sleepy little murder capital of the world. "It's in the box! Shooting for the #Scream6 film has now ended. ⚡👻⚡ Well done to the Thunder team!" reads the translated caption of the Instagram post shared by the crew in Montreal.

Scream 6 will see the remaining survivors of the Ghostface Killer leave small-town life behind and head to New York City instead. However, it turns out that they apparently didn't go away far enough, as someone new has taken on the mantle of Ghostface and is more than willing to wreak a little havoc in the Big Apple. Scream 6 will have several of the characters who first appeared in the newest Scream return, but will definitely mix in at least some of the OG cast.

That was confirmed again when Courteney Cox took to her own Instagram account not long ago to announce that her work filming the new scenes was officially over. Of course, there is one member of the original Scream cast who won't be returning, and that has certainly caused some waves among the franchise's faithful.

While she was originally expected to bring Sidney Prescott back at least once more, Neve Campbell announced earlier this summer that she's decided not to return after all. She made no bones about the fact that she wasn't going to be in Scream 6 because she didn't feel like the producers were offering her the kind of salary that she was worth. While Scream fans are likely unhappy about Campbell's departure, they will get to see the return of at least one of Scream 4's survivors, as Hayden Panettiere's Kirby Reed was confirmed as being in the new movie earlier this time year.

Scream 6 is expected in theaters on March 31, 2023.
