Gale Weathers is grieving the loss of her ex-husband Dewey Riley while trying her best to move on. She lives in a huge, fancy apartment, has a new partner, and a new job as a morning show host. Even six movies in, Gale is still a solid, well-developed, and well-crafted character and proves why Scream is one of the best and most influential horror franchises.
Gale's Scream 6 arc is all about trying to help Tara (Jenna Ortega) and Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera) find out who the new Ghostface killer is. This doesn't go well at first as Tara and Sam don't like that Gale has published another book focusing on what happened. The dynamic between these three characters is enjoyable to watch since all three are smart, spunky, and passionate. Gale can definitely see parts of herself in the siblings. Similarly, Tara and Sam respect Gale's ambition and go-getter nature, even if they are frustrated by other aspects of her personality.
Although there are many characters in Scream 6, Gale still manages to stand out and feels as exciting and entertaining as ever before. One of the smartest and most memorable things that she does is locate Ghostface's lair: an old movie theater where the killer has set up props and objects from the previous killing sprees. This is a great moment and proves to be an important setting in the third act of the movie when the main characters finally face Ghostface.
Did Gale Die In Scream 6?
From the moment that Scream 6 was announced, fans wondered does Gale die in Scream 6. From Neve Campbell saying no to Scream 6 to Dewey's death in Scream (2022), Gale was the only legacy character left, and it felt important for her to survive yet another round of attacks from Ghostface. It would be a shame for Courteney Cox not to appear in Scream 7, and since Gale has been through so much, audiences want to see her live.
Gale doesn't die in Scream 6, but she does have a challenging and epic battle scene with Ghostface in one part of the movie. When Ghostface phones her, she can tell that they're most likely in her apartment somewhere, watching her and waiting to kill her. Ghostface says, "It was always all about poor sweet Sidney sucking up all the oxygen. Where does that lead you?" Gale points her gun at a closet and Ghostface shoots out and attacks her. She screams and a tough fight ensues.
In an incredibly tense, effective and powerful moment, Gale lies on the floor with Ghostface above her. As Ghostface holds a knife inches away from her face, she swears at him. But before he can kill her, Sam yells "Hey f*ckface!" and shoots at the killer, who runs away. When Gale says, "He didn't get me. Tell Sidney he never got me," it's an emotional moment.
For a little while, it seems like Ghostface has succeeded in killing another character in Scream 6. Sam and Tara are scared, horrified, and worried that Gale is gone. Thankfully, Gale survives, although of course now she has even more trauma to work through after dealing with Ghostface yet another time.
Horror fans expect a few things from every Scream movie. Each Ghostface needs to explain their motive, there need to be a few epic kill scenes, and the main characters should come out on top. From the opening scene of Scream 6, audiences hoped that Sam, Tara, and Gale would be okay. While there are no details yet about Scream 7, the next entry in the popular horror franchise will only be satisfying if beloved character Gale can survive yet again.
