Plot details are being kept under wraps, but according to Paramount, the sixth Scream film “continues with the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mulroney is rumored to be playing a cop in the slasher sequel. Mulroney joins returning cast members Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, and Jenna Ortega, all of whom were featured in the 2022 sequel. Actress Hayden Panettiere is also reprising her role from Scream 4. Screenwriters James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick will return to pen the script, while Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, from the filmmaking collective known as Radio Silence, will return to direct.

Ghostface In Scream

The first Scream film premiered in theaters over twenty-five years ago. The slasher commentary was directed by horror movie legend Wes Craven, who is also known for creating the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. Starring Neve Campbell, Skeet Ulrich, Courtney Cox, Matthew Lillard, and David Arquette, the first film quickly became a horror classic and was best known for its self-aware and satirical approach to the slasher genre. The success of the first film spawned several sequels, including this year's fifth sequel that was coincidentally also titled Scream. Though the film was marketed as a relaunch, it is a direct sequel to Scream 4 and the first film in the franchise not directed by Craven, who passed away in 2015.

Similar to previous entries, the 2022 Scream satirizes elements of the horror genre, specifically the "whodunit" genre, as well as providing commentary on modern horror fandoms and the Hollywood trend of legacy sequels and reboots. Released in January 2022, the film grossed more than $81 million domestically and $140 million worldwide.

Scream 6 is scheduled to release in theaters on March 31, 2023.
