Paramount has dropped a new Scream teaser that shows Ghostface's updated approach to killing people. Scream 5 is coming back to theaters early next year and will shake up the competition of horror once again.
Scream 5 will be the latest film that brings back another one of the iconic classic horror movie slashers. The film follows up from the previous Scream movies and looks to continue the long-running storyline that centers around the Ghostface Killer. While it may be the same mask and killer, it is a new decade and that means the killer must get new tools.
The thirty-second Scream 5 TV spot shows off some of the jump scares and the apparent high body count for the new Ghostface killer. A lot of people are murdered in the short preview, and it ends with a very shocking revelation. The Ghostface Killer now has a flamethrower and a metallic mask. Now it's going to be hard to even get close to Ghostface and even if one were to punch them, the metallic mask will no doubt protect their face.
Ghostface Killer is known for utilizing phone landlines to call and harass his prey. They would pick a target and stalk them for days or weeks in order to get them paranoid. Once the target becomes sheltered they lock themselves in the house, which is exactly what the killer wants. Ghostface would manipulate the house or environment like a hunter would do to stalk its prey. They would do things such as cut out the power, break windows, and pick locks only to find their way inside to kill their foe when their heart is racing the fastest.
Now that it's 2021, the landline strategy doesn't necessarily work the same way it did for the '90s horror movie. People typically only use cell phones now, plus, a lot of houses are now outed with alarms, cameras, and other forms of high tech that makes it harder for the home invasion to occur. However, new technology means that those who wish to do harm are also outfitted with much better technology.
Scream 5 is shaping up to be something special. Its promotional campaign has been really solid so far. It's doing its best to keep up with the times of marketing and make sure that this vintage franchise is still relevant in the eyes of many new viewers.
Scream 5 will be in theaters on January 14th, 2022.
