The Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World franchise is undergoing a renaissance right now. It was recently announced that the Scott Pilgrim Vs The World beat-em-up game might be making a return, and now it looks like there might be a new Scott Pilgrim movie on the horizon, this time in anime form.

This news comes by way of an interview with filmmaker Edger Wright in Entertainment Weekly. Wright, who directed the Scott Pilgrim movie, said that he's been in talks with the comic's creator, Bryan Lee O'Malley, to revisit the series, but this time in an "animation way."

Wright said that while there was "nothing official yet," that the idea of doing "the books in anime form" is "being discussed as we speak." This is exciting news for fans of franchise, which has had no new installments since the video game in 2010. A new Scott Pilgrim show will hopefully lead to a a new Scott Pilgrim game, which could lead to a resurgence of beat-em-up games.

Scott Pilgrim Shot

While the first Scott Pilgrim was praised by critics and fans, it did poorly at the box office. Normally, a bad showing like this would be a death blow to any planned sequels. However, Scott Pilgrim has become a cult classic over the years, building a solid, devoted fan base, eager for another installment in the series. And an animated sequel, if done well, has the possibility of being very successful. Just look at how popular the Castlevania Netflix series, another unconventional anime series, has been.
