Killers of the Flower Moon plans to be a film adaptation of the 2017 book by the same name, one that will star Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert Deniro. The plot will follow the FBI -- before it takes the name -- as it investigates the murder of the Osage Nation Native Americans living on oil-rich Oklahoma in the 1920s.

Martin Scorsese will direct the film and was originally in talks with Paramount Pictures about getting the project produced. However, complications brought about by COVID-19 seem to have put a damper on things.

The movie overall will cost around 200 million dollars to make, which is currently too much for Paramount to fund. As such, the company has allowed Scorsese to shop his project around to other productions, and according to the Wall Street Journal, Scorsese's representatives are currently discussing things with Apple and Netflix, the latter of which funded and streamed Martin Scorsese's last movie, The Irishman.

Streaming platforms like Netflix haven't been hit as hard by the coronavirus pandemic, so they're not as hesitant about funding expensive projects. However, Paramount Pictures may still pick up Killers of the Flower Moon; it would just need to find a co-financer first.

Killers of the Flower Moon plans to release sometime in 2021.
