Scars Above is an online sci-fi video game that deals with the destruction of Earth and the sudden transportation of a team of four scientists and engineers to a different planet. While some fans have expressed that Scars Above is a rehash of Returnal, it possesses its own unique qualities allowing players to develop their own ammo and gadgets. Players get to play as Dr. Kate, who wakes up to being shocked and is on a different planet with her crew missing. Saddled with the responsibility of searching for her friends and surviving the horrors of the new planet, she must be strong.
The player gets to dive into complex levels of adventure while battling monsters and exploring horrifying landforms. Scars Above evolves with the player enjoying interesting weapons upgrade and gadgets that come in handy. This gives players an edge and helps keep a steady momentum. The weapons in this game are instrumental, boiling down to the fact that they interlink with each other. Each weapon is important, and the effectiveness depends on the type of monster encountered.
5 The Electric Cutter
The electric cutter consists of a blade of average size that has an electric charge attached to it. It is the very first weapon that players will use in the game. It can be found close to the boxes and can be used to clear a route through the vines by cutting them down. It is also helpful for reducing the population of crawling monsters such as spiders.
The fact that the electric cutter does not require reloading or charging is a significant benefit. This allows the player to conserve some ammo for when they face larger challenges in the game. It may be adjusted easily and is flexible.
4 Cryo Launcher: The Ice Grenade
The ice grenade is obtained from the secretion of cave animals, and this secretion causes a freezing action when it touches the ground. The player uses this to craft a cryogenic device using the MPU. It allows the player create an icy walking path to get through worms and water surfaces in the cave.
The ice grenade can be used along with any other tool of the player’s choice to attack bigger enemies. It is a very useful weapon used to freeze an enemy before discharging electric surge from vera or flame from the thermic charger to destroy the target. This element allows the player closer proximity with the enemy, opening an avenue for defeat without great panic. It is dependent and does not have any serious destructive power. Rather, it can be used as a tool to slow down the enemy while the player replenishes.
3 Thermic Charger: The Flame Weapon
The thermic charger, built from the thermic module in a cave, is a fire weapon that makes targets catch fire once shot at. Unlike vera, the thermic charger needs to be shot multiple times before the target dies. If aimed directly at the red nodes on the chest of the bigger monsters multiple times, it causes them to become weaker and eventually die. The thermic charger needs to be recharged and reloaded frequently, even during an encounter with a monster. The intermittent stops that occur may give an upper hand to the enemy if the player is not vigilant enough. This may lead to the player receiving vicious strikes from the monster.
Aside from the delay in firing this weapon, it is very effective on enemies. Because most enemies are vulnerable to fire, this element causes them to burn when shot. Also, the player should ensure to stay at a safe distance while shooting at the enemy to conserve energy for other encounters before finding the next strengthening pillar.
2 Vera: The Electric Rifle
The electric rifle also known as VERA was the first weapon to be introduced in the game. It is a vectorized energy accelerator that discharges electrical charge. It comes in a box as a half weapon and is fully developed by Kate in the Hermes. It is later found in chapter one not far from the crates where the electric cutter was discovered. This electric assault rifle super comes in handy when the target is in water or during rainfall. It gives an electrifying jolt when used to attack monsters in water.
Two strikes from VERA is enough to kill arachnids and scorpiods in the game. It also helps in weakening the electrical orb that powers some monsters. With its electrical features, it can be used to open up gates. It was first used to power up a reactor machine in the Hermes and subsequently to open up the first gate and other gates the player comes across.
1 Fire Ray
This is a different type of Thermic Charger that may be constructed using the Heat Synchronizer component in Chapter V. After charging, it fires a steady stream of shots, as opposed to a single blast like the Thermic Charger.
The Fire Ray's heat generator uses a combustible solution to produce a blistering stream of fire. The fire never deviates from the axis while being ejected out of the nozzle, maintaining the ray's stability without reducing its power. It is one of the best weapons players can use in the game.
Scars Above saw its release on February 28, 2023 and is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
