Scarlet Nexus features a unique skill tree called the Brain Map. It bears this name because all powers it contains stem from enhancing the mind, according the game’s lore. These skills vary from increasing attack power to granting actual moves, like the ability to perform a double jump.

There are a lot of nodes to choose from and only so many points to spend while leveling up in the game. For Yuito, what are the best skills to acquire? They are all fairly useful, but some stand out more than others, and will help players early on in the game if they acquire them fast. Here are some tips for choosing skills in this new Bandai Namco RPG.

10 Rebound

This is one of the starting skills in Scarlet Nexus. Rebound allows Yuito to jump back up after getting knocked down. This improves the combat, giving it a better flow within the game.

In a fight, there is nothing worse then getting repeatedly knocked down. Slow animations only increase the agitation that comes with this, but Rebound eliminates that frustration.

9 Perfect Dodge Attack

Plenty of games have featured slow down mechanics, such as the Bayonetta series. Scarlet Nexus doesn’t have as slick of a combat system as those titles, but Yuito does have a trick up his sleeve in this regard.

If players acquire Perfect Dodge Attack, then Yuito can perform a counter by hurling a projectile at the enemy. It can be hard to master this dodge and counter maneuver, but practice makes perfect — and it's worth it in the end.

8 Additional Plug-in Equip Slot 1

This skill is a lengthy name for what is essentially an extra accessory slot. Every character in the game comes with one slot opened up. Yuito has two skillsin the Brain Map that unlock these accessories, for a total of three slots.

The companions must unlock their other two slots through gifts. The more accessories each one has, the stronger that character can become. Potential bonuses range from blocking against status effects to increasing attack power.

7 Quick Item

One of the hardest things about action games is getting interrupted in the middle of trying to heal. This is true for Scarlet Nexus as well as another Bandai Namco classic, the Dark Souls series.

What this game has over Dark Souls, though, is this Quick Item ability. No longer does Yuito have to actually animate himself drinking a potion. Hitting the potion button is automatic instead, which saves a lot of time.

6 Shorten Item Usage Cooldown

Quick Item is not perfect, as one cannot spam items in a continuous loop. There is still a cooldown effect in Scarlet Nexus, seemingly to balance out the difficulty.

Shorten Item Usage Cooldown reduces that cooldown time, shaving off precious seconds from the process. It’s almost as good as drinking potions non-stop. These two skills combined will make this game much easier

5 Auto-Heal

There are plenty of potions scattered in each dungeon. Potions aren’t that expensive either, and money is given pretty generously in the game. However, potions will eventually run out if they player has to continuously heal between battles.

The auto-heal skill regenerates health while not in combat at an almost alarming rate. All Yuito has to do is stand still for half a minute at most, and all HP will be healed.

4 Revive Speed Up

Certain items can heal the party all together, but these are harder to come by in the early hours of Scarlet Nexus. This means that it can be unfortunately common to see party members fall in combat.

Thankfully they can be revived, without requiring any specific item. The trouble is that reviving someone in the middle of battle can be tricky if an enemy interrupts. That's where this skill comes in handy, as it speeds up the process.

3 Concurrent SAS Activation

As the Brain Map explains, this skill allows Yuito to activate more than one companion power at once. This can lead to immensely powerful combo attacks, which perform incredibly in battle.

For example, one fantastic combo players can use involves activating Kasane’s psychokinesis and Kyoka’s duplicate ability. This allows Yuito to summon more debris in the combo attack, as Kyoka’s ability doubles everything. There are three of these in the Brain Map, so unlock them all to make Yuito godlike.

2 Max Psy. Gauge Boost

There are two of these abilities available in the Brain Map. All they do is increase how much psychokinesis Yuito can use in battle. The more the player has, the more they can play Scarlet Nexus from a distance.

In order to fill back the meter quickly, Yuito has to physically attack an enemy. By increasing the meter to its max, this allows players to delay how often they get close to an enemy, thus keeping them safer from harm.

1 Double Jump

Double Jump really has no use in battle. However, players should still buy from the Brain Map because it can unlock a lot of secret items throughout Scarlet Nexus.

There is another skill that should also be bought as an honorary eleventh mention: Aerial Dash, which works marvelously in tandem with Double Jump. Having these two skills together will allow Yuito to reach new areas in the game, allowing players access to the full experience.
