After the Darren Bousman reboot Spiral: The Book of Saw brought the franchise and the Jigsaw killer back from the dead, Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures are once again teaming up to bring Saw back to the big screen just in time for Halloween 2023.

This will mark the tenth installment in the Saw series and director Kevin Greutert is set to return after previously directing Saw VI and Saw: The Final Chapter in 2009 and 2010, respectively. Greutert also edited the first 5 entries in the Lionsgate series and Jigsaw.

When it comes to the upcoming tenth installment of the Jigsaw franchise, Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures remain tight-lipped regarding plot and cast details. That said, franchise producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules did have a statement about the new installment. “We have been listening to what the fans have been asking for and are hard at work planning a movie that Saw aficionados and horror fans alike will love. And part of that is giving the reins to Kevin Greutert, director of Saw VI, which is still one of the fans’ favorites in the entire series," they said to Bloody Disgusting. The duo also promised more details were coming soon, though a precise timeframe was not provided.

The 2021 Saw reboot titled Spiral saw Chris Rock star as Detective Zeke Banks, a police officer drawn into the world of the supposedly dead Jigsaw killer when officers begin to be killed off one by one in new incarnations of the killers' trademark sick and twisted games and traps. The film saw Rock team with original series creators Leigh Whannell and James Wan after wanting to try a new direction in his career. Rock also had script input and polished the script written by Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger, with Darren Bousman directing.

Originally set to release in 2020, Spiral saw delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic but still performed well upon its 2021 release. However, reactions to the film were mixed from critics and fans alike, with many saying it didn't do enough to reinvent the series, while others praised its differences.

With such little detail available, it's hard to say what that could mean for Saw 10. There's definitely scope for the Saw franchise to return to its simpler beginnings with a more streamlined and cut-down approach as in the first installment, but there could equally be an opportunity to really push the boundaries of the established format.

Saw 10 will be released in theaters on October 27th, 2023.
