Santa Monica Studio’s next major game could be another third-person action title in the style of God of War, according to a new job listing. Not too long after God of War Ragnarok launched on PlayStation systems to rave reviews and chart-topping sales figures, word started to spread that developer Santa Monica was already hiring staff for a new, currently unannounced project.

Naturally, fans are theorizing that this new game is another chapter in the long-running God of War series. Earlier this month, Santa Monica Studios filed a series of job listings for Senior and Non-Senior Combat Designers - ones that would preferably be well-versed in the enemies and combat systems in 2018's God of War reboot and God of War Ragnarok. This follows some of the listings the studio posted in May, which also made mention of the two most recent God of War titles.

Santa Monica Studios has posted yet another job offer for its still-unknown video game, this time for a Senior Encounter Designer. While this latest listing makes no explicit mention of God of War, it does ask that its applicant have experience in the type of third-person action games that Santa Monica is renowned for. The offer also requests that anyone who applies has experience using text-based scripting languages, building 3D layouts for combat encounters, and working with code-based proprietary tools to implement and troubleshoot issues.

There are many different directions Santa Monica Studios could take its new project if it is indeed a new God of War game. Ragnarok was said to be the final chapter of Kratos and his son Atreus’s epic journey through the Nine Realms of Nordic myth, but the former could travel to another land of deities like the often-speculated ancient Egypt for his next adventure. The next God of War could also shift the spotlight toward another character like Atreus.

This assumes that Santa Monica Studios’s next game is another God of War, which hasn’t been confirmed in any official capacity as of this writing. At the very least, this mystery game will likely be in the same third-person action mold of Santa Monica’s fabled series given that its latest job listings are asking for experience in this genre. Only time will tell if this is the case, but many God of War fans are eager to see what Santa Monica Studios has in the works regardless.
