A new developer diary video for the upcoming Sand Land game shows off and details new dungeons and side quests. Bandai Namco's new action RPG will adapt the world and story of the Sand Land manga, which was authored and illustrated by renowned Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama.

The Sand Land manga series was serialized from May to August 2000 in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, and VIZ Media published an official English release in 2003. Sand Land remained dormant for nearly two decades before the announcement of a new Sand Land project in December 2022, which resulted in a new anime film being released in August 2023 in Japan. During Summer Game Fest 2023, Bandai Namco officially announced that a video game adaptation of Sand Land was in development for consoles and PC. Players will be able to control the protagonist, Beelzebub, in a strange desert world where humans and demons suffer from a water shortage.

The fourth season of Bandai Namco's asymmetrical multiplayer Dragon Ball: The Breakers game will add several fan favorite characters.

Bandai Namco published a new blog post and video for its Sand Land developer diary series with more insight into dungeons and side quests. According to Sand Land game producer Keishu Minami, players may explore a large world full of village ruins, towns, military bases, and dungeons. These dungeons range in overall scope from small dungeons to large dungeons divided into levels. High grade materials, treasure chests, and other rare loot may be found while exploring these dungeons. Materials may be used to develop new parts and enhance the overall performance of Beelzebub's vehicle. Moreover, the vehicle may be used to open new paths and advance through levels in certain dungeons.

Alongside the main story, Sand Land players may accept and complete various side quests found throughout the world. Minami notes that side quests help players learn more about the unique world of Sand Land and its inhabitants. As players complete side quests, more NPCs will be willing to move to Beelzebub's base camp as residents and offer additional benefits, such as new items for in-game shops. Minami hopes players will discover these side quests and visit various areas to make new discoveries in Sand Land.

Bandai Namco's new game appears to faithfully recapture the sense of adventure from the Sand Land manga series along with its distinct character designs. Dungeon exploration seems very promising since players will be able to earn valuable loot and explore more areas with newly upgraded abilities and vehicles. The developers will likely explain more details about side quests in its next Sand Land developer diary, which will delve deeper into Beelzebub's base camp.

Sand Land is not the only Akira Toriyama work receiving a new game in the near future, however. Alongside the development of Sand Land, Bandai Namco is working on a new Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi game. More details about this game could be revealed at the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2024 event in January.
