Samurai Gunn was one of several key games that launched during a wave of excitement for local multiplayer titles. Now the team of indie freelancer devs is ready to take the Samurai Gunn experience to the next level. Wednesday, it was confirmed that Samurai Gunn 2 is going to be coming to Early Access. Better yet, fans won't have to wait long, as the Early Access launch for Samurai Gunn is planned to launch this summer.

While there's still a lot left for the Samurai Gunn 2 developers to finish, the team says that the game is ready to play right now. More importantly, the team says that Samurai Gunn 2 is "extremely fun" to play right now. As such, the devs think the best way forward is to have players experience the game as it moves forward and offering feedback. As such, Samurai Gunn 2 will likely take an additional year of development following its Early Access release.

Early Access will launch with a substantial amount of content. It'll include all three of Samurai Gunn's major modes: Adventure, Versus, and Comic. All three modes will also support both local and online multiplayer, as well as a selection of eight initial characters. All modes are only partially complete, and more characters are planned, with plans to finish over the coming year.

A big part of Samurai Gunn 2's Early Access announcement is also the confirmation that it's partnering with other games to bring characters in as guest fighters. The first two partnered characters will be the protagonists of both Minit and Spelunky 2, but more are planned. It could turn Samurai Gunn 2 into the indie Super Smash Bros. Expect more news in the months to come.

Samurai Gunn 2 launches in Early Access this summer on PC, with a Switch release planned down the line.
