Originally released as a launch title for the Xbox One, Ryse: Son of Rome was initially lauded for its excellent visuals before questions were raised as to whether or not its gameplay quite lived up to its good looks. When Game ZXC reviewed the title last year, we suggested that while it didn't quite reach the dizzy heights that many hoped it would, there was still a fair amount for players to enjoy.

Ryse was one of the key exclusive releases that launched with the Xbox One, but like Capcom's Xbox One launch exclusive Dead Rising 3, it's coming to PC. Developers Crytek have announced the official release date and Ryse: Son of Rome will be available to purchase for the PC on October 10, being offered as a physical release and as a download via Steam. With support for 4K resolution, the much-lauded graphics of the game will be even more stunning on a healthy rig than they were in its prior release.

Beefed up visuals aren't all that PC gamers looking forward to Ryse will have in store. As per our initial report that the game would be making its way to the platform, this release will include the four DLC packages that the game has received thus far.

With funding for a sequel to Ryse seemingly hanging in the balance, fans of the series' first instalment will likely be hoping that the game proves to be a hit amongst PC gamers. There's certainly enough to build upon in Son of Rome to think that an improved sequel could be just what the series needs to really take off, but whether than goes ahead would seem to be reliant on PC sales.

That eventuality isn't too much of a long shot—fellow former Xbox One exclusive Dead Rising 3 is sitting pretty at the top of the Steam top sellers chart as of the time of writing, with its launch on the service coming tomorrow. There is certainly a wider audience to be reached by looking to the PC, and with the Steam audience growing constantly, it wouldn't be too surprising at all to see more and more big-name console exclusives making the journey to home computers after their initial console release.

Xbox One holdouts and Roman Empire enthusiasts alike will be able to purchase Ryse: Son of Rome for the PC from October 10, at a recommended retail price of $39.99 (€39.99/£34.99). Those pre-ordering the game from participating retailers—Steam included—will be entitled to a digital download of the game's 25-track soundtrack as performed by the Hungarian Studio Orchestra.
