Ryan Reynolds may have teased who will be the next Marvel superhero to get their own Holiday special after the actor dropped a hint of a lost Deadpool Christmas script he co-wrote four years ago.

Deadpool is surely no stranger to channelling the holiday spirit. Before the mouthy merc’s first movie came out, Reynolds starred in a marketing campaign by 20th Century Fox called 12 Days of Deadpool in the lead-up to the first trailer’s release. However, with Reynolds being the jokester he is, it turns out he, Rhett Reese, and Paul Wernick penned a full-fledged Christmas story around the time the Deadpool sequel came out.

Details of this popped up during a recent interview with Big Issue, where Reynolds expressed his desire to one day be able to star in a more musical version of Deadpool. “I would love to see a song and dance number in a Deadpool movie,” Reynolds said, even claiming there was a real Christmas-themed script. Unfortunately, the actor stated that the Christmas Deadpool script “got lost in the shuffle of Disney acquiring Fox and it never got made.” However, he’s still hopeful that the pitch might see the light of day eventually.

“It’s not a musical, but it’s a full Deadpool Christmas movie,” Reynolds said of the script. It might get a proper push if James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special does well with Marvel fans. It’s not a surprise Reynolds is so cheerful for a potential Deadpool special, as the actor is currently promoting his upcoming Holiday movie, Spirited, also starring Will Ferrell.

If there's one member of the MCU who would be well-suited for his own holiday special, it’s Deadpool. The comedy and satiric overtones of Wade Wilson, plus his constant fourth wall breaks, allow for potential spinoffs that don’t necessarily have to affect Marvel Studios' bigger plans. Deadpool 3 will enter production sometime next year, sans music sensation Taylor Swift, so any extra Christmas plans will have to wait until Wade Wilson makes his Disney-sanctioned debut.

So far, Deadpool 3 is the only R-rated MCU movie, something that would most likely be absent from a Holiday feature. Still, the 2016 Deadpool promo material already shows plenty of promise for such a thing to come to fruition, so many fans will have their fingers crossed for Reynolds to get the green light for it someday.

Deadpool 3 is scheduled for release on November 8, 2024
