The long running British MMORPG RuneScape was recently confirmed to be getting a release on the Steam store later this fall. It will remain free to play for players who aren't members and will have crossplay with both mobile and non-Steam users.

RuneScape has turned nineteen years old this year with it hitting its 20th anniversary next January. Despite its age, it has stayed strong with its community and frequent updates making it a beloved game of many people all around the world.

The Steam release of RuneScape will become available on October 14th, 2020, with its Steam page already being available for public viewing in the Steam Store. Those who want to download it upon its release can add it to their wishlist as they wait for the release date.

The announcement of the Steam release was made by Mod Warden on the official news page of the Runescape website. Alongside the announcement, Mod Warden wrote about the Runescape community and how many people have made deep friendships and relationships through the game that helped create the current RuneScape community.

Their words describe how people were brought together to participate in the game's events, hang out, explore new updates, and create experiences that will stay with people for the rest of their lives. With the Steam release, this community will hopefully grow even more with even more stories playing out in the world of Gielinor.

After the Steam announcement, Mod Warden continued to talk about making the game more accessible to more people as well as modernizing certain aspects of RuneScape to keep up with changing times. There was additional talk about how these changes will help the eventual full launch of RuneScape's mobile version with it being pushed back to 2021 due to global events.

As the post finished up, Mod Warden put out a thank you message to the community and asks players to give a warm welcome to all of the newcomers to the game when it is available on Steam after October 14th.

The Steam version will likely operate the same as the version of RuneScape that players can download from the official website. While this announcement is exciting, a Steam version of Old School RuneScape hasn't been announced yet. It is unknown if this will make its way to the Steam store as well or if it will remain exclusive to the official site and mobile devices.
