It was just another day for Twitch streamer Jakeyosaurus as he started up Old School RuneScape with the intent of doing some Treasure Trail quests. He had 150 Hard reward caskets, so he started digging until he unearthed a Master Treasure Trail scroll.

In Old School Runescape, Master scrolls are recommended only for adventurers who have ground their skills up to the highest tiers, though they do lead to the best loot. The first Master scroll he tried, which was the 412th he had ever completed, had nothing to write home about, nor did the next nine. The tenth casket of the stream turned out to be a mimic posing as a Master reward casket. Little did he know that he was about to hit the jackpot.

Many players have fallen into the trap of spending way too much trying to get the rarest items in RuneScape, but Jakeyosaurus was not looking for anything in particular. After a swift battle, his expression turned to one of shocked elation when he realized that the Mimic he had just defeated contained a 3rd Age Pickaxe, which is the 2nd most valuable item in Old School RuneScape, second only to the Twisted Bow. The Twitch chat was going berserk in the background. They had noticed something even more exciting, the notification in his quest log that his character had the feeling he was being followed.

There beside him stood a new companion, a bloodhound who bears a striking resemblance to the famous Sherlock Holmes. Each treasure is incredibly rare on its own, but the odds of getting both from the same reward casket are ludicrous. According to Twitter user and self-proclaimed "Clue Scroll Enthusiast" @SaederRS, the odds of getting a bloodhound plus a nonspecific 3rd Age tool is approximately 1:207,200.

The bloodhound is an A-tier pet, and can only be acquired through Treasure Trail scrolls. With floppy ears, lolling tongue, and a fetching green deerstalker cap, it is easy to see why many Old School RuneScape players consider the detective dog to be the most coveted follower in the game, at least for now. Jagex is still putting out updates for the nearly two-decade-old game, such as the Nightmare of Ashihama raid, so it's only a matter of time.

Jakeyosaurus's 4-year quest to acquire the rare pet seems to have come to an end with what may be the rarest drop in OSRS history. "If I had noticed both at the same time, I might have just exploded," Jakeyosaurus said breathlessly, completely taken aback by his good fortune. He hasn't mentioned what his next quest will be, but with this kind of luck he may want to consider looking for rare artifacts in RuneScape 3 with the new archaeology skill.

Old School RuneScape is available now free to play on PC and mobile.
