For nearly two decades, players have been able to journey into RuneScape, offering a world to explore and people to meet. Now, players are able to use the relationships they've built in that time to tackle a new challenge in Old School RuneScapethe Nightmare of Ashihama– an all-new raid featuring up to 80 players at once.

The Nightmare of Ashihama is available now for players in Old School RuneScape, and can be accessed by traveling to the catacombs of the Sisterhood Sanctuary in Morytania. There, players will face a boss simply called "The Nightmare." Those that are visiting Mrytania for the first time will need to complete the "Priest in Peril" quest before they can proceed, but after that, they're free to tackle the boss with up to 80 players. It's a neat piece of content for the gamethough the updated version of RuneScape got dinosaurs in a recent expansionwhich does sound a little bit more interesting.

Players that manage to take down The Nightmare will be able to snag some rewards, so long as they do a certain amount of damage. The better a player does, the better the rewards a player will earn. Rewards are unique to players, too, so there's no need to scramble around after the fight quickly grabbing loot. The only exception is a single unique item, which will be awarded to one of the players that met the minimum damage requirement. The more damage a player did, the better their odds of earning the unique are. Unique rewards always lead to RuneScape players trying to scam each other, so look out for any players suddenly trying to be extra friendly after getting a cool item.

Dying during the Nightmare of Ashihana will be a bit of a setback, as the regular rules apply. Hardcore Iron players that perish while battling The Nightmare will lose their status. Others will have to pay an NPC 60,000 coins to get their gear back from the boss fight. It's steep, but not as much as the Runescape player that spent $62,000 on the game has invested.

Hopefully, those that face The Nightmare come out okay. It's events like this that make Runescape one of the best MMORPGs of all time. With any luck, there will be more like it in the future.

RuneScape is available now on PC and Mobile.
