Rune Factory 3: Special, a remake of the beloved Nintendo DS farming simulation RPG title, features an engaging combination of both farming life and adventuring, with many NPCs to befriend, crops to grow, and dungeons to explore. When players need a break from tending to their farm or fighting monsters, they can also make time to relax by fish in the delightful town of Sharance and within RF3:S's multiple dungeons.

Players have the opportunity to catch a diverse range of fish and items in Rune Factory 3: Special. Fishing can be a great way to earn gold by selling either raw fish or delicious dishes prepared with fish ingredients. Additionally, some of Sharance’s residents are big fans of fish, and gifting them certain items will offer a substantial increase in their affection toward the player.

How to Get a Fishing Pole in Rune Factory 3: Special

Buying a Fishing Pole in Rune Factory 3: Special

The player can obtain their first fishing pole, the Cheap Pole, very early in their adventure. There are three methods to obtain the Cheap Pole in Rune Factory 3: Special. The easiest method is to simply purchase the Cheap Pole at the Blacksmith Shop for 1800 Gold, as the player can complete only one villager request per day and would have to wait for those requests to pop up on the bulletin board.

  • Purchase or forge at the Blacksmith Shop for 1800 Gold
  • Complete the request “I’m Looking For Something” for Barrett
  • Complete the request “Fishing Lessons from the Master” for Carmen

Once the player has gotten their hands on a fishing pole, they can immediately begin fishing in lakes and pools found around the town of Sharance and various dungeons. Each fishing location features an assortment of fish that can be caught depending on the current in-game season. Some fish can be caught year-round, while others are available only at certain times of the year.

How to Fish in Rune Factory 3: Special

Fishing in Rune Factory 3: Special

Fishing in RF3:S is a carefree activity with simple mechanics. To catch fish, the player needs to equip their Fishing Pole and follow these steps:

  1. Approach any water or desert fishing area and search for fish shadows.
  2. Press B to cast the fishing line, targeting the vicinity of a fish.
  3. Wait for audible signs that a fish is nibbling the bobber, but refrain from reeling in at this point.
  4. Listen for a distinct sound accompanied by the fish pulling on the rod and splashing in the water; this indicates a bite.
  5. To successfully catch the fish, press B upon hearing this sound, and it will be reeled in.

The player can upgrade their Cheap Pole once they have unlocked the Forge and increased their Forging Level. The first upgraded fishing pole, the Beginner’s Pole, can be crafted at Forging Level 15. Higher-quality fishing poles will allow the player to more easily catch rare and high-quality fish by increasing the window in which the player needs to respond to the bite.
