How to Upgrade Tools in Rune Factory 3 Special

There is only one way to upgrade tools during the Rune Factory 3's long campaign: players will need a forge. The get the forge, players will first need to clear the Privera Forest dungeon, then travel to Univir. This will trigger the growth of the tree the main character lives in, giving him more space for crafting stations.

Once the second floor grows, the blacksmith will help put in a forge on it for 100 pieces of wood and 5,000 gold. Now that the forge is built, players will be able to create and upgrade their own weapons and tools.

Tool Upgrade Recipes in Rune Factory 3 Special

Tool upgrades are amazing in Rune Factory 3; players will be able to water, till, and mow larger sections of ground all at the same time with the upgraded versions of the tools used. The starting tools can only be used on one square of the farm at a time, and each upgrade will expand the number of squares a tool will interact with at one time.

Upgrading the Axe in RF3

The axe is used to chop wood and can also be used as a weapon. Players don't start with one, so they will have to make one or purchase one from the blacksmith shop instead.

  • The basic axe is the Rusty Axe, which is made from 2x Scrap Metal and 2x Iron. It costs 1,400 gold from the blacksmith.
  • Chopping Axes are made with a Rusty Axe and 2x Bronze. They can also be purchased after clearing Sol Terrano Desert for 3,390 gold.
  • Lumber Axes need a Chopping Axe and 2x Silver.
  • Next is the Mountain Axe, which is made from a Lumber Axe and 3x Gold.
  • Last is the Miracle Axe, made from 4x Platinum and one Mountain Axe.

Upgrading the Brush in Rune Factory 3

There is only one level of Brush in RF3; it can be purchased from the Blacksmith for 2,400 gold and cannot be made. This tool is used to raise friendship levels with tamed monsters, so players will always want to have one lying around.

Clippers can be purchased from the blacksmith for 1,900 gold or dropped from Wooly battles. They are used to sheer the sheep-like Wooly monsters, and they unfortunately also cannot be upgraded.

While hammers can be used to attack hostile monsters, players can also use them to hit ore and break down rocks. These have several upgrades, and players will not start the game with one.

  • The beginning hammer is purchased for 1,600 gold from the blacksmith. It's called the Cheap Hammer, and it is made from 2x Scrap Metal and 2x Iron.
  • The Bronze Hammer is made from one Cheap Hammer and 3x Bronze. They can also be purchased after clearing Sol Terrano Desert for 5,570 gold.
  • The third level is the Silver Hammer; it's made from one Bronze Hammer and 3x Silver.
  • If players combine the Silver Hammer with 3x Gold, they'll get the Gold Hammer.
  • The final upgraded version is the Platinum Hammer, made from a Gold Hammer and 5x Platinum.

Upgrading the Hoe in RF3

The first hoe in Rune Factory 3 is the Rusty Hoe, which is given to them by Shara, one of the romanceable bachelorettes in RF3, during the tutorial. In order to upgrade it, players will need to pick up some items. Here are all the upgrades possible for the Hoe:

  • A Rusty Hoe can be made with 1x Scrap Metal and 2x Iron. A new one can be purchased from the blacksmith for 1,000 gold.
  • The level 2 is a Sturdy Hoe, which is made with a Rusty Hoe and 2x Bronze. They can also be purchased after clearing Sol Terrano Desert for 2,940 gold.
  • The Seasoned Hoe is made with a Study Hoe and 2x Silver.
  • Next up is the Shiny Hoe, made with 3x Gold and the Seasoned Hoe.
  • The final level of how is the Blessed Hoe; it is made with a Shiny How and 4x Platinum.

Upgrading the Pole in RF3

Poles are used both as weapons and to catch fish in Rune Factory 3 Special. The first pole can be purchased from the blacksmith, as players will not start the game with one. Upgrades allow players to catch better and better fish more easily.

  • A Cheap Pole can be picked up from the blacksmith for 1,800g or created with 1x Wood and 1x Strong String.
  • The level 2 pole, called the Beginner's Pole is made with one Cheap Pole and 1x Sparkle String. They can also be purchased after clearing Sol Terrano Desert for 3,580 gold.
  • Combining a Beginner's Pole with 1x Quality Cloth will make the Intermediate Pole.
  • Famous Poles are made with one Intermediate Pole and 2x Tortoise Shell.
  • The final form of the pole is the Sacred Pole; it's made from a Famous Pole and 3x Fish Fossils.

Upgrading the Sickle in RF3

Next up is the sickle, which is mainly used to mow grasses and cut down plants. This is also not a starting tool, so players will need to probably purchase their first one.

  • Rusty Sickles are purchased from the blacksmith for 700 gold or made with 2x Scrap Metal and 1x Iron.
  • Iron Sickles are created when forging a Rusty Sickle and 1x Bronze. They can also be purchased after clearing Sol Terrano Desert for 1,630 gold.
  • The level 3 sickle is the Quality Sickle, which is made with an Iron Sickle and 1x Silver.
  • In order to make the level sickle, combine a Quality Sickle and 2x Gold; this makes the Super Sickle.
  • The Legend Sickle is a wind weapon made from the Super Sickle and 2x Platinum.

Upgrading the Waterpot in RF3

In order to hold more water and water more plants at the same time, players of this farming simulation can upgrade their waterpots. These pots can be refilled at lakes and can also deal water damage to enemies. Shara also gives players one of these at the beginning of the game, but new ones can be purchased for 900 gold if needed.

  • Old Waterpots are made with 1x Scrap Metal and 1x Iron or purchased from the blacksmith for 900 gold.

  • The final level of the water pot is the Joy Waterpot; it can be forged from a Rainbow Waterpot and 2x Platinum.
