Update: James Gunn has debunked the rumor that Boyd Holbrook has been eyed for a role in The Batman Part 2. When asked on Threads to comment on the news, the Superman director and co-head of DC Studios said "Fake." Gunn was then asked whether stories like this are intentionally leaked through publicists or managers, to which he responded, "No I don’t think this has anything to do with Boyd and his people. Sometimes it’s an honest mistake by web sites [sic] who’ve gotten false info (although they’re jumping the gun journalistically) & other times it’s just made up for clicks. I don’t know which one this is." Game ZXC's original story follows.

Boyd Holbrook, known for his antagonist role in Logan, is rumored to be in talks to portray Harvey Dent in The Batman - Part II. Directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson as the titular character, The Batman was a critical and commercial success upon its release in 2022.

The film delved into the early years of Bruce Wayne's crime-fighting career, showcasing a gritty and realistic portrayal of Gotham City and its inhabitants. With its unique take on the iconic DC hero, The Batman set the stage for a promising trilogy, and fans have been eagerly awaiting news about the upcoming sequel.

Anticipated DC Project Suffers A Major Setback Due To The Actors' Strike

Another DC project experienced a setback due to the ongoing actors' strike, but this one might not be as difficult to bear as others.

According to a recent rumor shared by Instagram user CanWeGetSomeToast, Boyd Holbrook is reportedly in talks to play Harvey Dent in The Batman - Part II. Dent, also known as Two-Face, is a prominent villain in the Batman universe, previously portrayed by actors such as Billy Dee Williams, Tommy Lee Jones, and Aaron Eckhart in The Dark Knight (2008). The character is known for his tragic transformation from a righteous district attorney to a disfigured, mentally unstable criminal obsessed with chance and duality.

Interestingly, this wouldn't be the first time a high-profile actor was considered for the role. Matt Damon had previously been approached by Christopher Nolan to play Harvey Dent in The Dark Knight, but he turned down the role, which eventually went to Eckhart. As for Holbrook, the actor is no stranger to comic book adaptations, having portrayed villainous roles in the past. He played Donald Pierce in Logan, a cybernetically enhanced enforcer, and most recently, he took on the role of The Corinthian, a nightmare-inducing character in Netflix's The Sandman. Holbrook has also had notable roles in projects like Narcos and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

Unfortunately, fans will have to wait a little longer to see Holbrook potentially bring Harvey Dent to life, as The Batman - Part II has been delayed by a year. Initially slated for release on October 3, 2025, the film will now debut on October 2, 2026. This delay can be attributed to the disruptions caused by the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes in 2023, which brought Hollywood to a standstill for a significant portion of the year. According to reports from The InSneider, production is now anticipated to commence in April 2025, with new casting announcements expected to surface in the fall of this year, providing fans with a clearer picture of the talented ensemble set to join Robert Pattinson in Gotham City.

James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, previously confirmed that director Matt Reeves will maintain creative control over his vision for the franchise, with The Batman - Part II existing in a separate universe from the main DCU. However, Gunn is developing his own Batman film for the DCU, titled The Brave and the Bold, which is set to introduce a new live-action Batman alongside Damian Wayne, Bruce Wayne's son who eventually takes on the mantle of Robin. Ultimately, whether Holbrook joins the cast or not, The Batman - Part II promises to be a thrilling addition to Reeves' noir-inspired crime saga.

The Batman - Part II is now set to hit theatres on October 2, 2026.
