Updated June 1, 2023: Tommy Williams, Konami's Head of Communications for the Americas, has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid Delta will reuse the voice lines from the original game without changes.

Original story follows.

The news of Metal Gear Solid Delta using its original voice actors may have been misleading. Konami's press release said the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 will star the "original voice characters." A Twitter post also reiterated that in Delta the story and character voices will be unchanged, and it increasingly seems like this is meant literally.

When it comes to remakes, fans have now come to expect small changes either to the story beats or the characters. Dead Space brought back the voice actor of its protagonist to rerecord all his lines and also added to the map, so gamers have new areas to uncover. Final Fantasy 7 saw a massive update to its graphics with added content while the Resident Evil remakes at times gave fans reimagined storylines of the original plots as well as added skins and various new content to be excited about. But when it comes to Metal Gear Solid Delta, it seems the word "remake" will be presented in a purer form.

On the Metal Gear Official Twitter account pieces of information have been revealed bit by bit. Konami has outlined its goal to remake the 2004 game Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater with updated graphics and 3D audio in order to truly bring its jungle environment to life. When fans heard about the remake using the original voices, many got excited to see the actors return, but this may not be as easy as some would hope. When it comes to the Japanese voice cast, many of them have sadly passed away since the game's release. It also seemed interesting that Konami never seemed to mention actors in its statements, but rather just voices.

Konami has been very tight-lipped when it comes to revealing further information, rather opting to make small posts on its Twitter account teasing various aspects of the upcoming remake. However, putting together all the hints, it seems to suggest Metal Gear Solid Delta will be reusing and likely remastering the original voice lines without bringing back any of the actors. This is seemingly confirmed by another post on the Metal Gear Twitter account where it explains the reason for calling its remake "Delta." The meaning of the word is "change" but without altering the structure, which heavily points towards the possibility Metal Gear Solid Delta will remake the game beat by beat, changing nothing in the story and just adding updated graphics and sound to it.

Considering there are fans who find changes in remakes tedious and unnecessary, this approach may be refreshing for them. Looking at the so-far released teaser images, maybe even those who enjoy added content will give Metal Gear Solid Delta a go to fully immerse themselves into the jungle.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is currently in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
