In Roguebook, players draft cards from Vaults of Wisdom in order to create decks of cards to defeat enemies. In order to upgrade these cards, though, players will also have to collect something called gems in Roguebook.
How to Unlock Gems in Roguebook
Gems are valuable items that players can collect in Richard Garfield's Roguebook. There are two different kinds: Gems and Flash Gems. Gems add a permanent bonus onto a card by crafting them together. Flash Gems are single-use gems that give a one-time buff to a card before breaking. In order to get gems in the game, players will need to uncover Gem Stones on the map, defeat Elite enemies and bosses, and find Gem Mines. Gems can also be earned by uncovering and clicking on Narrative events on the map. Flash Gems are an embellishment; players will need Pages in order to unlock the ability to get flash gems.
In order to craft a gem or flash gem to a card in this deckbuilding roguelite game, players can use either the in-battle gem menu to the right of their hand of cards or by clicking on the Cards Menu button immediately to the left of the Brushes button at the bottom of the screen in the overworld. Players just need to select the card and the gem they want to combine and hit "Craft."
All Roguebook's Gems
There are currently 40 different gems in Roguebook. These gems are all unlocked by playing through the game, and they range in value from common to epic. There is a wide variety in what these gems can do, including adding damage bonuses to cards, adding additional block, giving more base Spirit to Allies, and even returning a card to a player's deck after it is used.
No new gems or flash gems were added during the latest big update to Roguebook, which was Update 1.10 that focused on the new hero and console versions.
All Flash Gems in Roguebook
There are fewer Flash Gems than normal gems. The flash version of the gem was added in the last big update to the game, and players need to unlock the ability to gain and use them in the Embellishment Screen. Most likely, players won't be able to unlock flash gems until well after they have unlocked New Game + in Roguebook. Here are all the current flash gems.
- The Blitz Sphere - Charge; deal double damage
- The Gift of Ruunin - Retreat; heal 10 life
- Polar Force - Draw One Card
- Everlife Amber - This Ally gains 5 Spirit
- Shining Diamond - Gain 30 block
- Thunder Sphere - Deal triple damage
- Unstable Capacitor - When this card is played, shuffle all cards in hand into a player's deck and draw that many cards plus one.
- Scholar Source - Draw Three Cards
- Tear of Orobouros - This card costs (0)
Roguebook is currently available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. A Switch version will be available in April or May 2022.
