Roguebook players now have a fifth hero that they can battle through the lands of Faeria with. But along with this newest update, players won't have any additional story chapters. Here is a breakdown of all the chapters currently in Richard Garfield's Roguebook.

What is Roguebook?

Roguebook is a deckbuilder roguelite that's set in the same realm as Faeria. Players are caught inside of a book and have to battle their way out with two of five total heroes. While originally it was only available on PC, fans of the genre can now nab Roguebook for both PlayStation and Xbox. The game is split into three chapters, each chapter more difficult than the last.

Chapter 1 of the deckbuilding gameRoguebook is the easiest to get through. It is a sunny meadow filled with delightful monsters to battle against, including little raccoon-type people, spiders made of plants, and even a few human thieves looking to grab the players' stuff. In all the chapters, players can come across:

  • Basic battles: a basic battle will give players one random consumable ink
  • Elite battles: much rarer than basic battles, players can fight these more difficult enemies in order to get brushes, Roguebook gems, coins, and pages.
  • Gem Stones: Gem towers offer players a regular gem
  • Alchemist's Home: These adorable little cabins in the woods allow players to transmute a single card into a new card with a gem for 75 gold.
  • Gold Piles: piles of free money
  • The Merchant: Players can purchase gems, relics, and cards from the merchant
  • Faeria Wells: There are several of these on every map, and each one gained after the first upgrades it. These give players extra turns in battles.
  • Vault of Wisdom: Pay 25 gold to choose from one of three cards. These can help players to build the best possible decks similar to Inscryption or Slay the Spire.
  • Relics: There will be two relics on the board, and players need to paint their way to the ones they want with ink
  • Radiant Hears: These consumables can be used to heal both heroes
  • Sky Towers: Each chapter will also have two sky towers which are used to uncover the surrounding areas on the map.
  • Narratives: These are short little stories that end with either buffs or debuffs for the characters.
  • Random Ink Bottles: Players can collect inks to unlock tiles on the map.
  • Eyes: Uncover a random treasure on the map.
  • Fake Fugoro: He will steal a relic from players. If they chase him down, they get their item back and another relic for their troubles.
  • Boss Battle: The boss battle of the first chapter will always be Seifer until players defeat him and take him as a potential hero for their parties.
  • Unwalkable tiles: Unless players have the Magic Carpet, there will be many tiles that can't be walked on. These will appear as slightly darker brown if the tiles have not been unlocked yet.
  • Coin Faeries: These golden friends prevent players from using ink or brushes until killed; they give players coins when they take damage or die.

After players have unlocked Roguebook's New Run +, there will be other kinds of tiles, like blue Faeries, to unlock as well. There are a total of three possible bosses in Chapter 1, not including Seifer.

  • Spider: Slows players with webbing.
  • Krog: Summons allies and eats them to gain more strength.
  • Tiki Palanquin: All three creatures take damage simultaneously.

Chapter 2 of Roguebook: Lost in the Oversky

The second chapter of Roguebook is a floating island. There are bridges spanning over open sky. Both basic battles and elite battles are significantly more difficult. Players will find wicked and weird wild animals here in the Oversky, including multi-tailed wolves, massive frog-like creatures, and a venomous fish that lives in a bowl. There are three possible bosses for this level:

  • Cap-10: This robot hits hard.
  • Majinata: A dragon-like monster that hides inside of other monsters he summons.
  • Soul Eater: Eats fellow monsters when killed to gain extra strength.

The final chapter of the deckbuilding roguelite gameRoguebook contains fiery machines and golems, lava, and massive dangers for heroes. It has a very dark and spooky industrial park look to the level, and players must tread lightly so as not to take too much damage.

Regardless of whether players have chosen to run through Roguebook with Aurora, Sharra, Seifer, Sorocco, or Fugoro on their teams, they will find these battles to be much harder than those before. The boss battle of this stage can be one of several:

  • Avatar of Mist: Dissolves a player's deck over time.
  • Avatar of Greed: Makes player's cards more expensive.
  • Twins Chaos: Players get a debuff from the other twin when one of them dies.

Roguebook is currently available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. A Switch version will be available in April or May 2022.
