In 2013, Cellar Door Games launched Rogue Legacy, a roguelike platformer that earned strong reviews and went on to win some major awards, becoming one of the top indie games of the year in the process. Now, seven years after the release of the original Rogue Legacy, it appears that a sequel may finally be announced.

Cellar Door Games, the studio behind Rogue Legacy, tweeted what appears to be a sword from the game with the number 2 in front. It posted this image on April Fools' Day, so fans should take it with a grain of salt, but it was accompanied with the hashtag April 2nd. If Rogue Legacy 2 is in development as this image implies, then an official announcement should be only some odd hours away.

Since Rogue Legacy, Cellar Door Games also developed Full Metal Furies, a co-op action-adventure game that, like Rogue Legacy, released to an overall positive critical reception. It has also worked to bring Rogue Legacy to more platforms over the years, with the latest port being the iOS version that launched in August of 2019.

Rogue Legacy remains Cellar Door Games' main claim to fame, and so Rogue Legacy 2 is definitely an exciting prospect. Hopefully this image wasn't just an April Fools' Day joke and fans of the roguelike platformer can finally get a sequel.

Rogue Legacy 2 is rumored to be in development for unspecified platforms.
